I don't understand the teams love affair with Cole Beasley. The gas I expelled this morning would have been enough to bring him to the turf.

Because Beasley is already a better WR than Byrd and Briscoe. He is sure-handed and runs beautiful routes; knows the offense. Romo trusts him and Cole is great on third downs.

So I really don't understand why some in here question why Cole is on the team. It ain't hard to figure out the reason.

Its a shame Vaughn made this team over Ryan Williams. Clearly the team believes in the hype of Vaughn as well. Vaughn will probably the reason if a top rated qb prospect is sitting there for the Cowboys to take they'll probably pass on him in favor of Vaughn....SMH.

I think you may be right about Newsome not making the PS now that you mention it. Minter was getting moved around too much in the run game. Bishop and Coleman were the right choices there IMO. I agree about Clutts. Until we find another FB he'll have to do. You can always get another RB although I liked Williams.

yes Bishop was the right choice along with Coleman

Beasley fills a specialize role. Slot WR.

That is why he is on this team.

It is not that he is a better WR than anyone else.

He's better than the wideouts that we just cut. Specialized or not, he fits.

I haven't taken the time yet to really go over and think about the roster and the cuts.

Except just a few thought off the top of my head. I can understand them keeping Vaughan, but do they really think that highly of him, that they couldn't find the same type of QB next year. I am not sure, but we will see.

I can't see them keeping Wetzel over Ryan Williams or Byrd. I can see why they kept Hayden just for the numbers and health reasons on the DL.
Or why Randle over Williams. There were a few decent RB's cut by other teams, so maybe Williams can be added to the PS. Or once Lawrence is placed on the IR-DR list, Williams or Byrd will be brought back.

Other than that, the list was mostly what I expected, mostly what most of us expected.

Let's get Kevin Vickerson and Michael Sam. I'm sure we can get rid of two other players on that 53 man.

Some words from a Broncos fan on Kevin Vickerson:

Kevin Vickerson will be a god send to any team struggling in defending the run.
lol at the fans who are saying they'd pass, he was a starter on a DL that killed some elite running games. You'll have different words when you sign him.

Man, that is a pretty bad roster.

That is the defense AFTER being the worst in the league. Wow

It may not last more than a few hours, but for now the Dallas Cowboys have an official 53-man roster.

With the latest releases announced shortly before the 4:00 pm ET deadline for the roster cuts, the Dallas Cowboys have trimmed their roster to the league-mandated 53 players.

So now we have it, the first official 53-man roster of the 2014 Dallas Cowboys. Granted, this particular iteration of the roster may not last for more than a couple of hours. Could you guys see us trading Carter? I don't see what's the point of keeping him around anymore.

Maybe because Carter is 3rd best LB on team and the team needs to start 3?? But I do not mind trading him either just know that our depth is putrid at that position.

Wetzel and Weems over Ryan Williams and Laron Byrd is a travesty. Clutts is a below average FB. Never saw a team carry so many 1 techs either. Should have kept Minter over either Bishop (PS eligible) or Hayden (borderline NFL player, never mind starter).

They had to keep an minimum of 8 OL, IMO. I think Wetzel would have been cut if Weems was healthy. Wetzel will have to be the backup backup OG. Weems has good upside. We didn't really see him in this preseason, but in the preseason last year he reminded me of Leary from the preseason before. You could see the NFL physical ability, but he was raw. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to get Wetzel to the PS when Weems is healthy. OT is a more expensive position to fill than RB these days, so I can understand it to some extent.

Bishop has been as good as Hayden and possibly better. He has some ability to penetrate which Hayden doesn't. Bishop and Minter are different positions. Minter was blown up against the run and he's highly likely to make it to the PS. The injury to T. McClain created a need for 1-techs. When he gets healthy, I would move on from Hayden.

If they really wanted to keep Ryan Williams or LaRon Byrd, they could have cut the FB and brought a FB back when D-Law goes on DFR-IR. The decision not to keep Spencer on PUP also cost them a player. He will barely get back before he could have returned under the PUP rules anyway.

There are other players that would have been highly likely to clear waivers like Special Teams player Cam Lawrence. They could easily have brought him back in a week or two.

I didn't really think anybody would have claimed the QB Vaughan either. Does he really have the upside to be a starter?
