Had this team gone as far as the NFC Championship game and lost, we'd all feel like the team is on the right track. Philly is splaying in it's 5th Conference Championship game in 8 years. I'd take that in a heartbeat, so don't tell me 'Real Football Guys' aren't all that important based solely on the number of rings they've earned. you don't get to the Super Bowl without first winning playoff games, and this team has done neither.
Words as genius as if had I written them myself. The Cowboys we knew and loved put themselves in a position to at least compete for the Super Bowl. Sometimes they didn't make it, sometimes they made it and lost. And on those blessed occasions, we made it and won. But the organization always put itself in a position through consistent excellence to make a go of it. This year was just completely unacceptable.

Vela's overlooking a key fact: Polian, Fisher, etc have kept their teams perennially in contention.

Since Jimmy Johnson left, Jerry Jones has been unable to do that. To try to equate anything going on with Dallas with the success of those other guys is laughable.
More pearls of wisdom.

The guy who turned down two HC job offers last year and made several short lists this year?

Whatever you think of his performance this year, its obvious he is still highly regarded around the league. There is no question that if he decides he really doesn't want to put up with another year of TO and walks he will probably have a job in some capacity with another team before getting out of the Valley Ranch parking lot.
Pretty sure he is under contract - he can't just leave for a job in "some capacity". Someone can check my rulebook knowledge on this, but he has to move up, not across, to get out of town.
If I were him I would do the same - putting up with TO did nothing for Garrett's career this year, why get pulled through the mud again next year?
Because you are being paid $3 million dollars to do it? I doubt he thinks he's "in the mud" or "under the bus", I don't think he's such a quivering puss that he's rendered supine regarding the vastly oversensitive interpretation of what Owens has said. If he is, then he sure isn't HC material anyways.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

I ditched Usenet a month or two ago. It just got intolerable, 90% crap, 10% topical. The final straw was two newsgroup turds in particular starting political, cross-posted threads that flooded the newsgroup with responses from people nobody wanted to talk to on topics nobody wanted to talk about.

Not probably gonna even visit the politics zone... Obama hasn't even taken office, and for too many he's either our deliverer from evil, or the deliverer of evil. Guy hasn't taken the oath, and people love him or hate him. What the ***!!! Far too few reasonable discussions on that politics to be found.

Hmmmmm... now I have to figure out which refugee from alt...cowboys you are. The obvious guess from the name is... Bear? Is that you you old salty sumbich?? If so, you gotta let me know...

1) Who else from the newsgroups is here
2) Wade - go or stay?
3) Jones - the problem or just the scenery?
4) TO - go or stay?

Just gotta see where we stand here! Feel free to take that last part to PM if ya want, don't want to whip everyone with backslapping hee-haws...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZzUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP

I don't understand this characterization of Garrett at all.

He's not running. Taking a better opportunity is not running. The only way this makes sense is if he contractually has a "future head coach of the Dallas Cowboys" clause in his hip pocket. I don't know that. Do you?

If he's giving Jerry the 'he goes or I go' ultimatum as is being reported, then he's running away from a problem rather than stepping up and dealing with it.

If he truly is a problem, bench Owens, fine him, suspend him, whatever.

But don't run from the issue.

You want to be a running team? Run the ball WITH Owens and it'll be even more effective because defenses will have to honor the passing game more.

And don't give me that "Oh, but the coachez have to appeeeeeease T.O." BS.
Does anyone here honestly believe Owens would complain if the team were winning? If Deion ran to Owens to ask him why his numbers declined while the team was 10-0 and had emphasized the run a lot more, he'd be able to truly answer with, "well, we run the ball a lot more, so I don't get as many opportunities."

End of story, end of "problem."

Of course, Deion wouldn't be running to him to ask this question because his numbers will only IMPROVE if this becomes a "run to set up the pass" team.

41gy#'s response:

You are making my argument easy. You are putting a qualifier on this player's behavior. That is the problem. Owens gets to do or say anything he wants to do or say, and the organization bows.

Why should he be treated any different? Why is he speaking after every game? He shouldn't be "the boss" of this team. Better yet, why should a 9-7 team put up with his eratic behavior. Dallas has plenty of offensive talent. They don't need him to win. I don't need Roy Williams to be "Terrell Owens". I need him to score in the redzone and move the chains.

When things don't go Owens' way or when the ship is taking in water, he runs to the media and blames Garrett or Romo or both. Plus, he gets away with it. He's a horrible example for young players, and he's poison in the locker room. You can't win on a consistent basis with these types of selfish, eratic players. Owens' track record speaks for itself. Where ever he goes, drama follows.

I want winners, not selfish, divas like Terrell Owens that chirp after getting the ball thrown to them 17 or 18 times. His production doesn't make up for the divisive force and disrespectful attitude that he has for players and coaches, including the quarterback

For me, spam did what the trolls never could, it killed the newsgroup...

That never stopped us before, LOL...

Yo...

If so, you gotta let me know...

1) Who else from the newsgroups is here

About the only name you'll recognize is Fred Goodwin's, he'll stop by from time to time...

2) Wade - go or stay?

I'd like to see him stay-- as defensive coordinator...

3) Jones - the problem or just the scenery?

Part of the problem, but not the biggest part, I think... to me, last season was simply explained, the Boys got pretty well worked over by the injury bug, worse than in quite a few years, then they got saddled with a brutal schedule down the stretch... then when they let that game to the Steelers get away from them, I think they more or less gave up...

None of that's on Jerry...

4) TO - go or stay?

I'm back and forth on that one... I purely hated when the Boys signed him, but he kind of grew on me, because it seemed to me that he cared... but I sure didn't like his act the end of this past season, and I'm leery about what he'll be like if he is brought back...

I'll tell you, though, if the rumor du jour has any substance to it, and Mike Shanahan is coming on board, I think the Boys can do just fine without TO... throwing Shanahan into the mix would almost certainly mean the Boys would quickly become more of a running team (they have the personnel for it, with Barber, Felix and Choice in the fold)... this would make things some easier for Romo too...
