I played under Arians in College. I'm not surprised at all that he would want a very diverse staff. However, I do find it surprising and a bit funny that the diversity would extend to female coaches.

while i do support equality in the workplace, how is setting up a role for a specific gender allowed exaclty? i would assume it has to be open to both men and women or it would be discriminatory in nature....

Is she allowed in the locker room?

Asking 60 entitled, alpha males to act PC does not seem like a good idea and seems like a distraction no one needs

No, it isn't discriminatory to have roles specifically for groups that are historically under represented. Men have plenty of opportunities as coaches, setting aside a single EXTRA role for a woman is not in anyway disadvantaging men

Not that I'm a fan of the particular laws that deal with this, but I'm not sure how this would not violate them.

This is just a way to try and excuse your preferred form (everyone has them) of discrimination.

Yes, providing something "EXTRA" solely for a specific group, and barring those of another group for possible participation in this "EXTRA," is the very definition of discrimination.

If you're fine with that form of discrimination, then just admit to it. Don't try and hide and pretend it's not what it is.

Everyone discriminates. It's the preferred basis/criteria of discrimination that people differ on.

I do not feel you need to create a staff or coaching position for a woman on a NFL or Pee Wee league coaching staff.

My Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader in elementary was a woman. She was the best. After the Boys Scouts of America made her quit because of a new all male leader rule, I had other Scout leaders. But, she was the best. Because she was the best, I became a 1st class scout faster than anyone in the new scout troop. I still tell my children and talk with friends about Ms. Brady. She was also my 5th grade teacher and was the toughest on me than any man in my educational career.

Its an insult to create a position for a woman when leadership is not gender specific Stop hiring what you think a leader should look like. Just hire the best leader and you will hire the best person whether male, female, or ethnicity.

First of all, there's no detail as to what the coaching position would be. Teams have dozens of full time coaches, so who knows what her role would be. Its not like he's hire a woman to be OC or something.

Second, many coaches never even played football at a high level and got their coaching experience simply working their way up within an organization. Are you saying women are incapable of picking up the nuances and strategies other male coaches have learned?

I agree about not playing. Forget about that.

I think a woman could easily be an NBA coach.

I just don’t see it in football. You’re forcing them into the role solely because of their gender.

There are no real women’s leagues that play with the dynamics that the men do and you’re giving someone a job at the highest level just because of their gender.

Football is a mans game. That’s just the way it is.

So you're saying a woman can't learn the knowledge and skills of coaching?

Obviously they could but is the NFL the place to teach it?

It's professional football.

I would think you would be trying to hire the very best in a Pro Sport since the bottom line is winning.

This is everything wrong with the modern NFL. It's not about the quality of the product, it's about everything else that has nothing, at all, to do with the actual game.

And it is.

That doesn't mean a woman couldn't learn it.

Football, unlike other sports, just doesn't have a league for women to coach in and gain experience. Coaching and experience go hand in hand.

You're forcing women into a sport that they don't have. Which is why I say football is a man's game.
