Building team interest on bringing back Amari Cooper

Shouldn't have traded Cooper in the first place.
Could have had another top *starting* WR for less money than we spent on Gallup/Schultz that year. Ferguson was ready to take over for Schultz.
We had to make a decision about whether to pay Gallup to be the No. 2 or keep Cooper as the No. 2. Lamb clearly was becoming the No. 1.

The problem that we had is that we were paying Cooper No. 1 money. So the team decided it would rather keep Gallup as the No. 2 for less. Trouble is that he was coming off injury and was never the same. It ended up being a bad gamble.

Awesome, i bet he got younger.

What a great pick up, Dallas didnt do much with him, but its always better the second time around.

Not interested

Was a Jag in Buffalo with a better QB
Buffalo had a running game, a good TE, shakir, colman and kincade as receiving options and a QB that Ran Alot. They really didn't need to rely on Cooper.

Cooper was also in a new system whereas the other guys already knew the system.

Cooper just never caught on to the scheme and now Buffalo has new talent. Cooper would be a good fit in Dallas again.

Was it McCarthy that had a problem with Cooper? Sure sounded as if Jerry was the one who was annoyed at him missing that KC game a few years ago. Not being a “team player” IIRC.

Either way, any of you who want to add players like him had better not be complaining about draft position when they are in line to win 7-8 games instead of 5-6.

Can’t have it both ways, and Amari Cooper doesn’t turn this roster into a playoff one.
I disagree were a fringe team he could easily tip the balance especially with injuries coming into play. Seasons over if Lamb misses any games currently.

The fact that the team is considering this says everything about where we are at WR.

I don’t dislike Coop. He is an excellent route runner, but he no speed. He won’t instill fear in defenses.

Once again, if you want nice things in the NFL you either have to draft it or pay to get it in FA. Cheap is no way to close the gap between us and the eagles.

I'm saying that's what I would offer. He's not playing for vet minimum. We gave Javonte Williams 1-year, $3 million and he hasn't accomplished near as much as Cooper.
At the start of free agency, he was projected at 2y, 25m or more

Oh, I think his numbers have come way down from that. I could be wrong. I do think he'll want more than $3 million, but that's why I'd offer him an incentive-laden deal.

Considering that Stefon Diggs got three years, $63 million coming off a torn ACL, I could be dead wrong about Cooper's value now.

Lol. So why did they give up a 3rd round pick for him?

I would kick the tires. He is only 30. Bring him in cheap and determine what he has left. He had 1,250 yards in 2023. In 2024 he was in a bad situation in Cleveland and then traded mid year to Buffalo. He never looked comfortable playing in Buffalo. With our depth at WR we need to be exploring every option. Bringing in Cooper doesn’t keep us from continuing to look for an upgrade.
As as its “cheap” see what hes got.

Good route runners don’t need speed. He’s a fine #2 option. Obviously, past his prime.

I don’t see any way that gets it done. Going in to Free Agrncy, he was projectrf for two years and 12-16 per.
Yea I think he gets more as well. Some free agents wr contracts were insane

He seemed like his feet or calves are always out of whack and both affect his ability to run.

This is where the Cowboys need to exercise restraint, something impulsive Jerry struggles to do. They traded a 4th for Mingo, but they are not going to give him a shot to win the WR2 role? They may as well just ride with who they have at this point.
