Building trenches mock

Yes! Think of Falcons against Dak sacking him almost everytime and messed up his confidence.
I'm not arguing that sacks don't impact throws but you can pressure a QB without getting the sack and still force him to miss targets. Rushing throws, bad footwork and mechanics can all be caused from pressure and not just sacks

The more i think about it, the more i feel Hernandez is the pick at 19 unless one of the defensive studs fall to us in Vea, Ro Smith, Edmunds, and James.
As much against the overall logic in 'my' building of the team in this draft, what you & klingo posted above kinda makes for an interesting angle,,,I'm positive should he be overdafted by us at the #19 pic,I probably wouldn't jump off a bridge or fire up a chainsaw in a police station or anything of a drastic nature, foiling foe's draft plans are of a sweetness all unto it's own !o_O

In this exercise I used multiple draft sites to make my mock. I focused on building the trenches as that's the way you win championships.

Free Agency.

We have signed 7 guys already but with 2 major holes left we look to shore those spots up. It's later in free agency so shouldn't cost too much.

Tre Boston safety. Excels in coverage, missed some tackles but with upgraded front 7 won't be a big problem.

Navarro Bowman MLB. Losing Hitchens created a need in the middle. Add that Lee has struggled with injuries and Jaylon still working his way back we bring in a tackling machine. Would instantly improve our LB corps.

Draft.

1. Vita Vea DT. Some have him gone top 12 but some have Vea available at 19. It's an easy decision, Vea gives us a big body 1 tech but has pass rush ability.

TRADE. (Tyrone Crawford, Cole Beasley and 6th round.... Possibly add a future conditional pick just to trade up a few spots)

2. Will Hernandez OG. A few mocks have Hernandez going in the 2nd round. Dallas is able to be patient and only has to move up a few spots to solidify the OL. Hernandez will plug in day 1 at LG while letting Collins stay at RT and giving us a great swing tackle in Fleming...... No more Green debacle.

3. M.J Stewart CB/FS. With Scandrick gone and Jones moving to corner we still need a young secondary piece. Stewart is great in coverage especially tight ends. Wouldn't need to start right away with our corners plus getting Boston but would still be able to contribute and develop into a starter.

4. Tyrell Crosby OT. It's possible he isn't available here but a few mocks have him in the 4th. Has future LT starter traits in case Smith isn't healthy. Gives us more depth on the OL so we never have a Green and Bell debacle again.

4. Josey Jewel LB. Bowman is 30 and will be a short term bridge. While some dislike Jewel he is very good tackling. Would give us depth in the middle and a guy that can develop into a starter.

5. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo DE. With Lawrence on the franchise tag, Tapper staying hurt, Gregory waiting on reinstatement, Crawford gone and Ealy in a short term deal we add a talented pass rusher here. Needs a ton of development but has some pass rush moves already. Would be a nice rotational piece to our suddenly strong DL.

6. Shaquem Griffin LB. Only reason I have Griffin lasting to the 6th is his handicap. I think he will be a very good player and could possibly go in the 4th. At this point he is too good of a value to pass up and if he can show the ability to tackle running backs, TEs and receivers he will be a steal. Front 7 is looking strong and has depth now.

6. Bo Scarborough RB. Morris doesn't have a contract with us and we need another running back besides Zeke and Rod. Bo would be a good back to add and makes our strength even stronger.

7. Marquez Valdes-Scantling WR. Had no idea he would last here as he is a big body receiver with speed. Has some good traits but needs developing. He is everything you want physically and will be matchup problems if our coaching staff could get creative sometimes.

TRADE (next years 6th)

7. Jordan Thomas TE. Needs work in the blocking area but can contribute immediately as a receiver. With Witten on the team TEs just aren't going to get much time or reps. Thomas will also protect us if Rico can't go again this season.

A few possible UDFA

Austin Proehl WR
Robert Foster WR
Kenny Hill QB
Andre Smith LB

In closing some of these guys will fall and rise but this exercise they were available in those spots. I think we have improved the roster from top to bottom. Defense should be improved and so will the offense.
Some good work here...but...

Regarding your proposed trade of Crawford and Beasley. We fans tend to overvalue players on our roster. IMO, Neither of those of those guys would be easy trades because of their contracts. They might be attractive to pick up after being cut, but Crawford’s contract compared to his output is crazy. I have been advocating that Crawford be a post June 1 cut because it saves us about $4 mil in cap space.

Stopped reading at Trading Crawford/Beasley.

Who in the world would trade for them?

Crawford has one of the worst Contract in the NFL in Terms of Cost vs. Production.

Beasley has value as a slot receiver.

Crawford while hasn't been pro bowl might do decent in another scheme. Essentially the team trading for those guys isn't giving up their second. They are gaining picks plus players just for moving down a few spots. They still have a second round pick

Again the team trading isn't losing a pick. They are basically swapping second rounders for 2 guys that can play and extra picks.

Actually as someone else pointed out, his production is on a par with several other defensive line players with similar contracts. He is can and has played DE and DT, has played in 77 of 80 available games. Over half of his $45 million salary is guaranteed, which if I'm not mistaken means the Cowboys are on the hook for that, so other teams might not have to suck up a lot of money for him. Regardless, he's not a horrible player, we forget that any guy who's able to make an NFL roster and play for 5 years has value to somebody, it's only a question of if they have the cap space to pay him.

I would agree that in my opinion he's not been worth what he's paid, but it's not like he has NO trade value...

I'm with you. Who's gonna trade for Crawford

Teams with DL needs include Tampa Bay, Chicago, Miami, Washington, Cincinnati and Baltimore. Most need depth, so a guy who can play either DT or DE would be useful.

Just because we think Crawford is trash doesn't mean the rest of the league does...
