I'm kinda leaning to this guy being another Reggie Bush..

I think it all boils down to what Stephen Jones said. He stated that "if you think McFadden is going to be the next Peterson, you look to move up".

The flipside is that if you think McFadden is going to be the next Bush, you stay pat.

Does Jerry and Stephen think McFadden is Peterson or is McFadden Bush?

If anybody knows the answer to this, then you know if we are going after McFadden or not.

It seems to me that when you follow this line of thinking through, you just end up doing a statistical analysis of value and end up coming up with something similar to the draft value chart that's already available.
Exactly. So if you get something that gets you close to equal value, I don't understand why anyone would automatically be wary of that just because you gave up a number of picks.

The fact of the matter is some people are literally afraid of making a big move because of the bust potential, when, if you get close to equal value, the odds are the same that your top pick performs as well as multiple lower picks.

I think I know what Jerry thinks. I just hope that he's not letting his allegiance to Arkansas cloud his judgment on the guy. He has seen a lot more of DMac than I have.

Unfortunately if we do move up and he busts, everyone's going to say Jerry was thinking with his heart and not his mind. I wish we could know exactly what he is thinking.:D

I wonder, though, if the draft chart needs to be re-evaluated. It's been two decades since it was created and there's no doubt that scouting and players have changed significantly since.

DMC is definitely more Peterson than Bush. Now, I don't think McFadden is going to have quite the success as Peterson. But I wouldn't be surprised if Felix Jones was just as effective as Reggie Bush in terms of running the ball.
I tried looking up the stats for players like Bush and Peterson and just wasn't able to find them. I do know that in his senior year 71% of Petersons yards came after first contact, so you can assume he probably had pretty high percentages in terms of Runs Requiring More than One Tackler and pretty low in terms of Runs Resulting in No Gain or a Loss.

That little tidbit just came to light and changes everything....

I imagine it probably does. The depth of players in the draft surely is as high as it has ever been.

I know that most if not all teams follow something like the value chart. Do you know if all teams use the same one, or do they make their own updates? I would think it needs updating every year, sort of like inflation.;)

My guess is that they don't even use a draft chart, but rather go by their boards.

I have no problem with moving up if we are talking both firsts -- that's why you get two of them IMO. But when you start talking about future picks or all of our day 1s (old school day 1s meaning 1-3) - then I'm in the no camp. I think you see who drops to 9 or so then make a move if your guy is there. Otherwise stay put
