Bye Bye Bennett

Cool story, bro.
At least it was official. If he wasn't "officially" ready to trade Martellus, I don't know what the Cowboys front office would think.

Anything short of a 1st round pick between 10-15 and I'm not interested....

Bennett (I refuse to call him Marty B) will always be a guy with a ton of potential and a lot of talent, but will never reach his full potential because of his attitude. The fact that Jerry said something about his "tweets" should be a red flag for everybody. Jerry always looks at the positives, and he basically called Bennett out. Jerry called him out because JJ KNOWS the impact Bennett could have if he had his head on straight. Calm down with the UStreams and tweets, and just act more your age.

It's still too early to get upset over Bennett's lack of production in the passing game. He is playing behind one of the best TEs to ever play the game! And his job is to block for the most part. I am concerned with the blown opportunities he had albeit few it was. But that doesn't take away from his principal job on this team which is as a blocking TE.

If you get rid of Marty, and then Witten goes down, you will find out just how easy Phillips is to cover as a primary receiver. Passing game will become ordinary to below.

Do you know his role on this team?

What makes you think he underperforms, watching the games on TV?

What coaches have commented he lacks work ethic?

My point is you draw many conclusions without my evidence. Perhaps it's your perception of Marty that needs re-evaluated.

BTW Hard Knocks was a year and a half ago already.

Jerry. ;)

I would definitely take a 1st rounder for Bennett.

I would like to keep Bennett if we are going to play more two TE sets and utilize him more as a receiver. Otherwise, he is a luxury we can't afford given holes in other parts of the team. In this scenario, I would trade him for a mid-3rd rounder or better.

He has those intangibles which allow him to perform on the move evasive cuts without the expesnse of losing any force or invariability, speed. that speed is indicated by the eyes, he can display this eyes after only the speed has been initiated, also bobbing his head up and down as his long, powerul strides have begun that final stage of his drive to paydirt

One more time in English, please.

On second thought, nevermind.

:muttley: Thanks. I am sick with the flu right now and that made me laugh. I just wonder about some of the posts this season. There have been some memorable ones.

This is almost exactly what I was going to say, only you said it better than I ever could.

Because Bennett didnt have 900 yds receiving and 10 TDs in this offense he is an underachiever with poor work ethic?

Do you think that in this offense, this scheme, that Garrett actually gave Bennett the option...... " Hey Martellus... you can either stay in and block, or if you get the urge, just run a random route and get involved in the passing game." ?

Honestly?

Bennett did the dirty work this season, that was his assignment.. plain and simple. Garretts' scheme didnt include Bennett in the passing game, he was an extra OL for the most part.

We saw what happened when Bennett was sent out in route against the Vikings,,, Columbo got abused.

Its just my belief, but I dont think Im going out on a limb when I say that as this OL improves over the next couple seasons, so will Bennetts role on this team, as a pass catching option, and Red Zone target.

When he becomes a viable Red Zone target and has a role on third and long, all the Bennett haters will be re-evaluating his value.
Jerry Jones called his work ethic out. Nice try though.

Exactly... Garrett basically turned him into a run/pass blocking TE. IMO he hasn't been given a chance to prove himself. There is no way they're gonna start him over Witten, so he has to make due with what he can get

NO WAY I trade Bennett.

If he gets it together in the next year or so, he's going to be an absolute beast. The problem is that we don't have plays for him due to Witten. So Phillips caught a couple of passes this year...big deal...that doesn't make him better than Bennett...they aren't looking at either guy very often.

A talent like Bennett needs a little motivation...I think we need to design some things for him.

LOL, why would anyone give up a 2nd rounder for him based on what you stated above?

Because we are going to change the story and invoke our rights to hide the hardknocks film. :) I'd trade his butt in a heartbeat if his work ethic or ability to process info isn't up to par. We don't need a bad influence on our team. BTW, save me the story of him not being given a chance, he's been thrown plenty of passes in order to determine that he doesn't catch them as he can and should, and he doesn't run routes as well as Phillips either. It's no mistake that you're seeing Phillips more and more. He does his job and works hard on the field. He's a producer.

We have Jason Witten and now John Phillips, between Bennett and Phillips we have the best chance to get a good pick by trading Bennett. The guy was a huge disappointment this past season and Phillips outplayed him. My current TE depth chart:
1) Jason Witten
2) John Phillips
3) Martellus Bennett

Love MartyB cause he's hilarious but the guy isn't performing and apparently the work effort is there. Ownership has noticed it as has the coaching staff, the guy needs to concentrate on his game instead of his persona.

My list.
1) Jason Witten
2) John Phillips
3) Carpenter( or whatever his name is) - Practice Squad
4) Bennett

Actually, that was Scott Chandler...And I liked him a lot too based on his performance in the pre-season. However, he was picked up toward the end of last season by none other than the NY Giants...

So he's no longer available for us, we only have the three now.
