LOL. Oh man I love the arm chair coaching that you see on these forums.

I can't get enough of the folks who think they have a clue what's going on, what schemes are being called, what the gameplans are, and then try and tell the world how they know, for sure, this person or that person isn't doing their job.

I can't get enough of it.

Really.

It's awesome.

how many catches a game do you expect bennett to have averaged as the back up TE being the 6th or 7th option in the offense? ?

More than he had as a rookie in the same offense would be a good start.

I'm not advocating getting rid of him, but he played poorly this year in the passing game.

Does anybody know the percentage of successful targets to him? I thought I remembered reading that only RW's percentage was worse.

Thanks. What actually surprises me is how low Crayton's was. He was at almost 80% just a few seasons ago. I wonder if teams were just caught off-guard by him before.

I was surprised by that too. But the nice thing is that he makes timely catches and he can take the short ones a decent way. Crayton by his numbers makes a much better #2 than Roy Williams. Crayton's supposed to have the best hands on this team, those numbers were quite disappointing.

Encouraging statistic for Ogletree fans:
8 targets, 7 receptions, 96 yards, 0 TDs, 87.5% completion, 13.7 yards/rec
Small sample size but still decent :)

So unfortunately I did a career span analysis of Crayton.

'04-'09 (6 season career) 316 targets, 195 receptions, 2858 yards, 23 TDs

61.7% career completion, 14.65 yards/reception (not a bad number)

His best completion % season was in '06 with 75% completion off of 48 targets.

A few other Cowboy Receivers:
Terrell Owens (While he was a Cowboy only, don't have tgt #s for full career):
434 targets (More than Crayton's career), 235 receptions, 3587 yards, 38 TDs
54.14% completion (That's pretty bad) w/ Cowboys, 15.26 yards/reception.

Jason Witten ('04-'09, excludes Rookie season which lacked tgt #s)
689 targets, 488 receptions, 5618 yards, 26 TDs
70.8% completion (pretty damn good), 11.5 yards/reception.

So to be honest TO played kinda bad when he was with us..... 45.86% of the passes thrown his way were not completed.... coin flip that he catches it essentially. Btw, Owens in Buffalo is only 50.4% completion.

I was at triaining camp every day in S.A. watching this guy look like the MVP of the camp.

I say we had better give him one more chance or he might haunt us one day ......

It may take an injury to Witten for this guy to find his game, just as was the case for Miles Austin. Once Miles got his confidence in games and Romo gained confidence in him it was off to the races. For this reason, I agree that he needs some more time and opportunity to show what he can do. As good a blocker as he is, I would just like him to develop to the point that teams can't easily double Witten in two-TE sets for fear that Bennett will make a big play down the field from the mismatch that is created. In the meantime, I will take his blocking gladly.

In terms of maturity, it is an issue and may always be an issue off-the-field. I am more interested in his maturity at work and this is the area that I hope he improves. He needs more focus. Part of this can excused for age is I think he is only 23 and a natural knucklehead by the sounds of things.

I would trade him for the right package due to needs at other areas of the team but I wouldn't give him away as everyone in the league is looking for a great 2-way TE. I would trade him for a 1st rounder, but Jerry was right to turn down the 4th and Henry that Cinci offered.

Anyone who suggests trading promising young players is an idiot.

I agree, people expected way too much out of him this season. Sure, it could have clicked and went better for him during this season but he's really young and still learning. I think he will make a huge improvement this coming season by being a more reliable target and continue his effective blocking.

In training camp they need to get him more work with Romo. Last year most of his work was with Kitna. So Romo and Bennett never really got their chemistry because of that imo.

Busted routes. Free lancing. Dropped passes. And even Jerruh called him out on putting more into his PROFESSION. So frankly I would tell him that if he does not show that he cares more for the game of football then his other crap then get rid of him.

If the guy who has confidence in RW getting the job done, ahem Jerry Jones, doesn't have the same confidence in Bennett to be professional; you know Bennett needs to step it up....

Actually, that was Scott Chandler...And I liked him a lot too based on his performance in the pre-season. However, he was picked up toward the end of last season by none other than the NY Giants...

So he's no longer available for us, we only have the three now.

DIDN'T REALIZE THAT. That's too bad.
