Collins reminds me of Ed Reed. Ball hawking safety that can lay the lumber when he needs to. Jones is above decent, but I don't think he's a game changer the way Collins is.

They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence, Collins by a landslide. He would've made our defense a heck of a lot better.
If Roy Williams could cover, they would be comparing Collins to Barry Church right now.

Not sure that's the best comparison. They are completely different as players. Coming out of college and his rookie season he was terrible in coverage. He made plays last year so people forget about it but as we saw week 1, he's still a liability in coverage.

I will say, the 2 of them would complement each other very well if on the same team.

yea, I agree, but there was no way to get both, not like we took Randy Gregory over Collins. Also, fwiw, I think given time Xavier Woods will compliment Byron Jones quite well. He'll never be the hitter that Landon Collins is, since Collins is about 20 pounds heavier, but I think he can be a ball hawk guy, when operating in the box. Won't be this year though.

conflicted here.......that was the play all over the Zone where G.Bay had O.Lineman draped all over D.Irving "giving Rogers all sorts of time".........

.........but at some point, as Byron watched Rogers being pushed toward the sideline, running out of time fast, the instincts have to trigger in Byron to "make a play", the great ones can somehow sort thru and find the limited options Rogers had. Woody, Cliff Harris etc always seemed to be able to turn it on and "make the play".............same with T. Palumuo etc all in the current era..........but that is what separates them into HOF'rs I guess, vrs. just solid NFL players.
His instincts are absolutely terrible.

The latest example is on the Jaylon forced fumble last week....Byron had a zone covering the flat..looking lost he is basically running in circles chasing ghosts and then watches the ball bounce on the turf for what seems like forever...then try's to get it but Lee has already pounced on it by the time that thought crosses his mind.

Lee made the tackle, held him up, and then pounced on the ball while Jones literally ran in circles trying t figure out who to cover and then stares at the ball until a real football player can do something.

This is the nutshell of what is wrong with him as a player.

For those who think this is hard to believe...

It was the play that ended the season. Jones got caught peeking and lost the TE. His draft position is way too high.

Jones blew the play; I think I read in a post season interview Jones admitting as much that he gave up too much depth and flattened out in his coverage when he should have been following the TE. It was a down and distance play and he had no business worrying about Rodgers on 3rd and long.

That said, I think it's way too early to try act like it's defined his career or that he's a finished product.

That shows nothing about his instincts.
Really? Maybe if you are in denial it doesn't.

Let me point out another issue with this play...when the WR catches it, Jaylon and Jones are almost equidistant from the WR....Jaylon gets there and makes a great play to cause fumble while Jones is jitter hopping and supervising and overthinking. I think most people would say that Jones should be faster that Smith...but the difference is that Smith is a real football player and Jones is feeling his way out there.

At some point in a zone, 3 to 5 seconds after the snap, I'd think the coaches would teach to Man up.............

We picked Jones in the first round. Giants picked Collins in the second round pick number 1.
Jones was a corner which we turned to safety and Collins was a safety and plays that position for the giants in the NFL. They both play pretty good. Collins around the line of scrimmage and Jones spend most of his time covering TE's one on one or the deep part of the field.

I would of love to had been able to get Collins in the 2nd round. Heck I would of traded our 2nd and 3rd rounder for him.....of course with hindsight being 20/20 lol. Randy Gregory and Chaz Green for Landon Collins is a no brainer so far.

Lets hope Heath can make us proud. I'm actually intrigued with Xavier Woods though. He impressed me vs the Rams. Too bad he was injured and didn't play no more in preseason. But he is back healthy and seem to play with instincts.
You would've have to traded up for him because that is what the Giants did I believe.
