Where did I say pass rush once?

Just surrounded by premiere talent.

Oh and I don't think I've ever recalled anyone saying man I wish we had better LB'rs. When people talk about money they talk about the Dline just to clarify a little further, so I read your comment as a comment about the Dline since you referenced JPP.

Landon Collins got torched routinely at Bama. Saw him single handedly lose a game against ole miss. He fell out of the first for a reason. To his credit, he's gotten a lot better.

Ehh ...they paid Janoris 62 mil, so when people talk about the money it’s the resources pumped into the defense in general and not just the d line. But even with that said, our sack total was a pleasant surprise last year but don’t think anyone in their right mind would have preferred to have our d line over theirs.

I mentioned jpp because he returned to form last year after his accident and lost season Landon’s rookie year. Point being that Landon thrived after getting back one of the more talented des in the league, along with adding premium FA acquisitions in the secondary and d line. It makes life easier

You're only looking at the end of the play Jones was not supposed to be the only defender in the area.

Regardless, judging a player on 1 play is lazy.

It was the play that ended the season. Jones got caught peeking and lost the TE. His draft position is way too high.

That play also took an incredible throw that you may seen once a year and was the residue of our lackluster pass rush giving Rodgers all sorts of time.

Whoa what?

I was under the impression that if you didn't think Byron Jones was a hall of famer you have no idea about football.

If you don't think that one interception he had on a Hail Mary at the end of a meaningless half in a game isn't indicative of the type of ALL-PRO that he is about to be then you have no idea about football!

That's what me and a number of posters have been told for two years now on here.

Jones is average at best. He is a great athlete, average to below average football player.

He was supposed to be a day3 pick before the combine

Collins > Jones. There is no debate. Jones needs to step up his game.
Which one has more INTs playing the other's team? Byron Jones got one last year because Eli didn't do his homework on Jones's athleticism. If there is no debate then why are we debating it? Jones > Collins

I love Byron....and, if he had a front 7 that created pressure, he would look MUCH better

conflicted here.......that was the play all over the Zone where G.Bay had O.Lineman draped all over D.Irving "giving Rogers all sorts of time".........

.........but at some point, as Byron watched Rogers being pushed toward the sideline, running out of time fast, the instincts have to trigger in Byron to "make a play", the great ones can somehow sort thru and find the limited options Rogers had. Woody, Cliff Harris etc always seemed to be able to turn it on and "make the play".............same with T. Palumuo etc all in the current era..........but that is what separates them into HOF'rs I guess, vrs. just solid NFL players.

Jones has been very solid. He's the best man-to-man cover guy on the roster. He's just not a high-level ballhawk.
It's his play as an off safety that concerns me. It seemed that Anthony Brown got burned deep every game vs a top receiver last season, with Jones trailing badly as the field safety. Either they are not putting him in the best position to maximize his skills, or he just doesn't have top center field safety instincts. So far, I just haven't seen it. Love him covering TEs, but that can't be his only job.

I think that's fair. I think it's a bit of both. He's only played safety for a season and a half and he's not the most instinctive center fielder right now. Our pass rush put him in some bad spots as well--they gave opposing QBs time to put him in pick your poison situations.

I'd love a true 3-down, ballhawk center fielder. They're a premium asset these days, so it may not be wise to hold our breath, however. As someone else said, Jones has length, is great in man coverage, is solid in run support, and has great range. He may not be Earl Thomas, but he sure checks a lot of boxes. Don't get me wrong, I think it's reasonable to desire traits that Jones doesn't have, but I can't help but role my eyes at the bust talk.

We picked Jones in the first round. Giants picked Collins in the second round pick number 1.
Jones was a corner which we turned to safety and Collins was a safety and plays that position for the giants in the NFL. They both play pretty good. Collins around the line of scrimmage and Jones spend most of his time covering TE's one on one or the deep part of the field.

I would of love to had been able to get Collins in the 2nd round. Heck I would of traded our 2nd and 3rd rounder for him.....of course with hindsight being 20/20 lol. Randy Gregory and Chaz Green for Landon Collins is a no brainer so far.

Lets hope Heath can make us proud. I'm actually intrigued with Xavier Woods though. He impressed me vs the Rams. Too bad he was injured and didn't play no more in preseason. But he is back healthy and seem to play with instincts.

Being an Alabama fan I really wanted him to come here. Broke my heart when he went there. I can say the same bout Heath and Xavier Woods, it'll be something to keep an eye on during the season.

I remember the experts saying Collins had coverage issues when he was drafted. The Giants have probably the best seconday in the league. It gives them the ability to use Collins in a way that showcases his strengths.

Byron has his own intangibles. You don't see Collins locking up Jordan Reed much. And to say Byron is a bust, well you either don't watch or your just ignant . o_O
