Byron Jones next contract, how much?

Jaylon only has 1 accrued season. He'll still be RFA in 2020. No rush there.

Not popular, but DLaw has too much injury history for me to want to resign him. I don't trust his health, and his production, to hold up long term. Or even this season. Last season, only 4 sacks in the second half of the season. And we have pretty good alternatives at DE besides.

Byron - I don't see him as an elite CB. 2 career INTs. None so far this season. He's started half of his rookie season, and been a starter since. I've warmed to him, but only if the contract reflects his not elite status. I generally don't like spending big money on corners.

The real interesting guy short term is Irving. Jerry does like getting himself a deal.
The front office came out this week and said that Jaylon will actually be an UFA after next season, not a RFA.

How did he get an accrued season his rookie year?

Overthecap has him with only one accrued season.

I'd expect the team to have this kind of stuff right, but I don't see it here.

From what I'm seeing on Spotrac, market rate for a young stud corner is around $13-$15 million per season. AJ Bouye got 5 years $67 million, Stephon Gilmore got 5 years $65 million, Kyle Fuller got 4 years $56 million. Xavier Rhodes got 5 years $70 million.

Jones won't cost a lot more than any of those guys because A. he's only had one year of high-level production and B. we know he's a scheme dependent player. But still, there is a heck of a market for young press CBs. I would say he compares closest to Boyue, as a one-year guy who kind of came out of nowhere.

Byron's a RKG with zero off-field problems and minimal injury risk - he broke something that cost him most of his senior year at UConn, but he's yet to miss a game in the NFL. Given his age and very low risk, I'd probably offer him a Kyle Fuller deal - a 4 year, $56 million extension following his 5th year option.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm really happy we had one of the best cornerbacks playing safety the last four years. I'm glad we didn't stop the progress of Brandon Carr and Mo Claiborne by trying this years ago.

On the question of how much do we pay him. I agree with another poster who said earlier to pay DLaw and let Byron prove it for another year on the franchise tag. I'd hate to pay him big money for a one year wonder, if he does it 2 years then lock him up.

This reminds me the last year of the Garrett contract...when he won coach of the year. It was all the NFL's plan to sabotage us. And how did that work out? Don't take the bait again. Let him walk...take the comp pick.

I really dont care , hes not getting top 10 money thats for sure not for one season at CB and 3-4 very sub par ones at S..i say for all these guys the Cowboys need to stop bidding against themselves, let the players go test the market, the market and any offers he receives will set his worth..they tend to just over offer players huge contracts after one good season and never see what they are really worth..they are getting better at it and for me Dlaw and DI are more important for the bigger money, BJ will be in the 10-15 CB money..

You're out of your freaking mind if you think hes not getting top 10 corner money. He had BY FAR been the best corner in the NFL this year

DAL paid him the whole time he was on the NFI

they didn't have to but since they did they lost the year.... it was in good faith like with LCollins

With Collins, there was likely an off the books deal involved to get him to come here. I'm fine with that. Offer him a good deal to get him to come.

But Jerry really just gave away a year of rights to a player for *nothing* in return? I'm annoyed. He gave away a fourth of a 2nd round pick. That's not good faith; that's just stupid.

Seriously?
In a league where Sammy Watkins gets Teams in a bidding war to make Him a 16M PA Player, when He has had one 1000 Yd Season and caught a whole 39 passes for less than 600 yds last Year (thank goodness We lost that one), You don't think a Top Corner would get paid?

If he continues playing at this level, he'll become the highest paid CB in NFL history.

Wasting him at safety all those years should be the reason to get rid of JG and RM ... good coaches put players in the best position to be successful. It makes me wonder how many other players are underachieving because of our ineptitude at the coaching position...

The $13m coming off the books w/ Lee and Hurns will basically go to Byron. Tyrone Crawford will almost certainly be cut before the 2020 season, and that $7m savings should be enough to lock up Maliek and Randy, at least. I think Collins and Brown are probably gone, but both will net strong Comp picks, since we won't really be in on UFAs, I woudln't think.

The increase in salary cap should cover most of Dak's contract.

Not sure Crawford goes anywhere until his contract expires.....

Just imagine if our coaches didnt waste two years of his life at safety
