Obviously I don’t think this will happen, but in the event he flops that is an absurd total amount of guaranteed money for someone who hasn’t played a down in the NFL.

True. But that's the game the NFL likes to play. They figure, for all those that flop, there will be more that outplay their rookie contract. I'm guessing the numbers favor the owners.

a RB usually is only great for maybe five years
Those like Emmitt and Walter Payton and Derick Henry are outliers
when you are building your team a top pick on RB is one of the last things you do

I could see it if you’re a contender. But when you’re building, you don’t waste that kind of precious draft capital on RB.
