Caleb Downs contract details

Just think of a OT asked to play OG. Or a 3-4 LB wanting to be paid as a DE. Or an outside CB asked to play Nickel during a contract year.

Teams will find ways to limit players money.
Ah, I see. You're right. Thanks.

53 million for a rookie is bonkers. IDC
What their talent level is.
The explosion in cap is making the top guys getting closer to the 07-09 rookie cap numbers. Albeit a smaller cap ceiling back then.

Are rookie contracts usually that high?? WTH
Thats a lot of money. Especially for "just" a safety.

Since 2018 contracts for the 11th pick hovered around 20 mils. They didnt climb in correlation to the higher salary cap every year like someone could expected.

27 is a significant jump. I am looking forward how our incompetence in the FO will try to justify that.

Hopefully he outplays his rookie contract and is re-upped in year 4 like Kyle Hamilton because he plays like him.. Would love to see that happen.

Did you look at what the other 1st round picks are getting paid? I’m sure you didn’t.

The other 1st rounders? I think i dont understand what you mean.

I looked up every contract for every 11th pick since 2015. Those were all first rounders. And for the question the poster had i wanted to answer it is important to know how others 11th picks were paid. Then you can say it was a high or low contract handed out.

From 15 to 17 contracts were around 15 mils. Then jumped to 20m in 18 and stuck there until now.

None of those players was a saftey. Most were DT, CB, OT. One QB. But also his contract was only 20 mils. So contract heights are not position dependend. Maybe player dependent. But i think its way more important which pick a player is. Pretty obvious to me.

I meant the other 1st rounders this year. The salary is on a scale by slot so, for example the 10th pick will be paid more than the 11th, and the 11th more than the 12th. I think you’ll find that his contract is not out of whack with his draft class.

I checked that too. I just didnt posted it.

But you are right it is like you suspected.

strange take
Obviously I don’t think this will happen, but in the event he flops that is an absurd total amount of guaranteed money for someone who hasn’t played a down in the NFL.

sure that’s the risk with any player. my issue was moreso with “i don’t care how good he is”

Mendoza got a 57mil fully guaranteed contract over 4 years. A "steal" if he pans out at QB. Even if he's average, for a QB that's a reasonable "guarantee".

Glad Love got paid, but man, quite the contract to a position that has seen the players devalued unless they are the cream of the crop.
The jury is out on Jeanty, but even his great CFB career/talent couldn't overcome the Raiders inept offense. And it's not like the Cardinals are just a RB away.

this what happens when you go BPA above all else
a RB usually is only great for maybe five years
Those like Emmitt and Walter Payton and Derick Henry are outliers
when you are building your team a top pick on RB is one of the last things you do
