Downs played 146 snaps from the slot for OSU last year. Often those were playing inside leverage, which can be anything but typically tells us he’s covering against the underneath throws and slants probably in zone or if he is manned up he has help over the top. A good chunk of those are likely running downs too.

My guess is it’s hard to find much film on him in man from the slot because he did it 2 maybe 3 snaps per game.

IMO this is an extreme example but it’s kinda like calling ceedee lamb a running back. Yeah he’s gotten snaps from the position in the past but he’s certainly not a RB. Downs is very capable of getting slot snaps but he’s not a full time guy you want in that spot.

If he's NOT a "full time slot" guy...I am okay with that statement. I wouldn't want him there full time anyway. He excels at the coaches knowing where the play will be and expecting him to be there. tOSU did very well with it. He probably does 4 or 5 different positions just a few times a game. If there's anyone I trust right now to have him where he needs to be it's CP.

Great news to hear . . . I've been a Cowboys' fan longer than I even care to admit to. It's just an awful disease that seems incurable but takes the place of just being an ordinary human. I'm hoping Jerry keeps taking steps toward the door but that's really asking a lot.

He didn't really play man coverage in the slot. Here's my original post, just so we are crystal clear.

They have him playing a ton of man, which is something he didn't really do in college.

Will be interesting to see how well that holds up in game.

This is exactly 0 plays of him playing man coverage from the slot. You're proving my point lol.

I'm not questioning whether or not he is a great football player. What I'm saying is that they are using him in man coverage from the slot on guys like CD and it's not something he's ever done before, so I'm skeptical that it's going to translate to the NFL or be how they actually use hijm. He simply hasn't done it.
