The 07 team was a good route as opposed to a bad route (Patrick Crayton) away of appearing in a NFC championship game.
The 09 team was not a good route away, but they did win a Wild Card game, but got smashed in the equivalent 07 game. Not worth arguing either way though the end result was the same.
I will tell you what I believe and certainly would not argue the point but just throwing it out there.
In the first NFC championship game that Dallas played SF back in the 90s, Jimmy had thoroughly (IMO) prepared the Dallas Cowboys for that game...and the game ended up being a classic that Dallas won. Wade would not have had that team prepared and Dallas would have lost. Now you can't compare eras, quality of the Dallas Cowboys then and now nor you can you compare the quality of the opponent then and now...in all fairness.
However, I believe a quality coach such as Jimmy Johnson would have had Romo and the Cowboys better prepared than Wade Phillips and I truly believe the Cowboys would have been victorious. Of course this is all just speculation and I am not going to argue with anyone on the point.
However the point is quality coaching matters and that is more than just the actual Xs and Os during the game.
But internally for me, I believe coaching is not underrated and it matters. If Wade Phillips is good coach, Romo is a HOF lock.
Look, we disagree on virtually everything I'm not going to continue wasting my time this is going nowhere. QB's can be coach killers and one of the reasons Parcells probably stepped down from the Cowboys after the 06 season was he saw the warts Romo had. Parcells was aging and didn't want to have to deal with all Romo's ill timed mistakes he saw enough of them at the end of that season.
There's not much any coach can do with a gunslinging QB who has issues with decision making and ill timed turnovers. Once the ball is snapped it's in the QB's hands. We still see some of the same meltdown problems with Romo we saw in 06 it will not change he is what he is. Favre had the same ill timed turnover problem and 20 years in the league never changed it.
