Well, I commend you for not calling him elite. I wasn't always on the realist side of the coin with Romo either... but over time I started looking at him in a different light and realized I was wrong. He has a propensity to choke at the most inopportune times and he isn't much of a leader either. He IS elite at times but you never know when the other Romo is going to come out. No way we win a superbowl with him if he can't maintain solid play in the post season... or even when our season is on the line to get to the post season.
I'm with you on this. Before he became QB full time, I was at the front of the pack pushing for Romo to start.
I give a guy 3 years to show me something, that includes everyone. By year 3, I just noticed that he had problems reading the defense, and at times, would just hold on to the ball causing un-needed pressure. The one bad thing that jumped out at me was how he played once teams got the offense figured out late in the season.
He looked lost, took way longer to make up his mind, and generally froze when they took away things he liked to do. He also looked nervous in big games, and decisive games, as if he wanted no part of it.
What I will say is, he looked to be more comfortable reading defenses for the most part this year, again until late in the season. His biggest improvement IMO, was cutting back on his turn overs.
Now if he can get his head to match his skill set, we may be looking at someone special, but how many players over the years became JAG because they couldn't get their mind to coordinate with their talent?
