Per Adam Schefter and ESPN. Guess he wasn't bluffing. Unreal.

I admire his conviction. He's suffered through numerous injuries recently and if he doesn't want to continue, he's right to retire now. He'll join Barry Sanders as all-time great Lions players who walked away before their time was done.

All you can do is admire someone who would walk away from that much money... or at least admire his convictions. While I have no doubt he will get in, he's a pretty questionable hall of famer in my book. Not a knock on him... 0 rings, only 2 truly special seasons and retiring at age 30 didn't give him enough time to have some more memorable playoff moments.

His games against us in 2011 and 2013 were about as all time as it can get.

He absolutely humiliated carr in 2013. Up 30-17 with what? 2 min left? Total joke

Living in Barry Sanders hometown there are people around here who are still surprised by him walking away from the game. I can't imagine how the Lion supporters must feel now.

That's gotta crush their cap. His contract doesn't end until after the 2019 season.

I imagine when Suh was a free agent last year, the front office argued that they couldn't pay huge contracts to all three. Now they're down to Stafford.

Looks like he will count roughly $12 million against the cap in dead money. He would count about $24 million if he played in 2016 under his current deal.
