Amazing that New England got this guy without giving up any extra picks.

SF used 3 1st round picks to trade up, and considered Mac Jones and Trae Lance a toss-up before finally deciding on Lance.

Some trivia.

Mac Jones led 8 pre-season drives......and every single one resulted in New England score.

my guesswork ...two things:

- Belly made the decision to go with rookie Matt Jones... and instead of chancing a struggle early with Cam and later change to Jones ... he decided to go with Jones have him learn on the move and be better for it;
Based on what he's shown, Jones already is showing an NFL ready keen and knack for the NFL and making good decisions. He'll be even better at season's end.
Still stunned he dropped so far down in 1st round

- plus, i would not be surprised if Cam asked Belly for his release so he can go elsewhere to eventually compete and work his way into a starting gig.

Cam Newton would not provide any competition to Dak whatsoever. I understand some individuals not liking Dak, but the fools commenting tend to slant the threads.

He's remarkably beyond his years in adjusting to the game; Steelers, ATL, Philly, Washington, (Denver is waiting for Rodgers)
Frankly if i'm Belly, based off what he's observed in camp-preseason, i'd rather risk my 1st rd pick struggling ..vs hoping Newton not struggling.

I assumed this thread was discussing Cam as a BU on this team, I get that he would financially prefer a starting gig somewhere else like Houston possibly, but maybe he has reached
the point in his career, his head, that he knows his starting gig is done and willing to back up Dak.
Best option available currently,, its early so we can play the wait and see game, but sometimes you get left with your pants down when taking that approach.
They freed of Zeke money for someone, we will know soon enough.

Is it possible that the Cam release is just about roster shuffling with New England? He wouldn't be subject to waivers and they could sign him back in a day or two after the requisite number of players are shifted to IR or other designation.

Newton was the only NFL starting QB last season, minimum 13 starts, who threw more picks than TDs.

They didn't release league MVP Newton. That guy hasn't been around in years.
