Good for Campbell. Looks like the young guy is getting better. I think he might end up being a player for the Skinz.

Campbell: NFC Offensive Player of Week
By Gary Fitzgerald

October 10, 2007

Commanders' quarterback Jason Campbell has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Commanders 34-3 victory over the Detroit Lions at FedExField last Sunday.
It is Campbell's first honor as NFC Offensive Player of the Week. The Lions game marked only the 11th start of Campbell's career.

In discussing the honor Wednesday, Campbell made sure to keep his success in perspective.

"I'm thankful for the honor, but at the same time I have to put it behind me and move on to the next game," he said.

Campbell completed 23-of-29 passes for 248 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for a career-high quarterback rating of 125.3.

Campbell engineered two second-quarter touchdown drives of 80 and 83 yards, completing nine of 10 passes on those two drives for 122 yards.

Campbell threw a 7-yard TD pass to Chris Cooley on a third-down play for the first of his two touchdown passes.

He also threw a 37-yard slant pass to Antwaan Randle El on a 4th-and-2 play that set up the Commanders' second touchdown, a one-yard run by Mike Sellers.

Commanders wide receiver Keenan McCardell, who caught two passes from Campbell in last Sunday's win, sees great potential in Campbell.

"I think there will be many more [NFC honors] for him," McCardell said. "He's taking things very well. He understands that game is behind him now. Accolades come when you prepare and play well.

"He doesn't want to be a one-week wonder, he wants to do it on a consistent basis. Just being around hijm, I see it in him."

Commanders' defensive end Andre Carter was also nominated as NFC Defensive Player of the Week after he recorded eight tackles, two sacks, one safety and four quarterback hurries against the Lions.

I'd like to see the ES scum buckets like TR1 and bubba grow some balls and post this on here.

I think CZ should attempt to differentiate itself from ES by actually talking about football in this thread.

I'm breaking my own rule here, but there I come to both of these sites to learn and discuss pro football. If I wanted to have a conversation about fans, or MB ettiquette, or the definition of trolling, I could probably go to better sources than these.

Campbell had a great day. He scored, he took care of the ball, and he did it without Santana Moss, and with a banged up OL. Of course, he did it against the Lions, who have now crowned 2 NFCOPotW, since I believe Westbrook got it vs. the Lions in week 3. Although it could have easily been McNabb.

The 'Skins are better than I thought they would be. I figured the O would improve, but their D is a lot better than I projected.

So, 250 yards passing and 2 TDs wins you Offensive Player of the Week, eh??

Seems like pretty mediocre numbers to me, must have been a slow week for offensive play in the NFC... and to think, that was Campbell's most productive game as a pro...

Come on SB, you have to admit that completing 79% of your passes is good and so is a 125 QB rating. You are also right that there were not a whole lot of other big games by other NFC offensive players this past week. Favre put up some good numbers, but had 1 critical mistake. We all saw Romo's game. No one else in the NFC stands out off the top of my head.

Campbell looks 110% better than the end of last year. He looks more confident and relaxed. He's got a good arm and a pretty damn good touch.
JMO, of course.

He won it more by attrition than anything, I can admit that much. When you look at what happened this weekend there simply aren't that many standout performers. Favre lost his team the game and Romo came pretty damn close to that.

Other than that most NFC teams simply stunk it up so it's not that surprising.

It's a nice honor but it doesn't mean jack. Still a nice award for a 3rd year player that's starting his first season, but I think the title definitely deserves and asterisk.

He had a good week. Best game he's had so far, no doubt. ARE didn't hurt him by taking a 2 yard pass to the house, but thats what they do in DC.

Dink and Dunk and hope someone can break a tackle.

Fact of the matter is, the skins coaches don't trust JC to make difficult throws. One or two deep ones per game just to keep the D honest, but I don't think anyone truly believes JC will amount to a pro bowl type qb.

It's like with any starter, players have to earn the coaches trust and Campbell is on his way of doing just that. If they didn't trust his judgement then why put the ball in his hands on the 4th down play that he completed to Randle El?

The same could be said for the TD he threw to Cooley after Reid did us the favor of stopping the clock to ice the kicker. Heck, they kept the play call despite a number of false starts that pushed us further back and completing that pass was far from a simple throw.

Campbell is pretty far from having arrived, but he's a lot further along in his development than a lot of people are willing to give him credit for.

Maybe the whole dinking and dunking thing was true last year but this year the Redsins have been taking many shots downfield as evidenced by being second in the NFL in yards per completion.

And who is #1? Why Dallas of course, by nearly two yards per catch. :D

At any rate, YPA gives better picture of a team's passing game, which your team is 9th in NFL, above average.

I still believe Campbell is just a bus driver, evidenced by rated 28th in passing attempts and completions.

What's funny is that tools in ES constantly state that Romo is nothing more than dink and donk QB when he leads in NFL in YPC and YPA.

Well, it ain't too shabby, but you really oughta consider the competition... Detroit's pass defense is gawdawful, just ask Donovan McNabb...

I'd also invite you to compare Campbell's stats to other QBs who have won that award in the last coupla years, I'm pretty sure you'll find they don't shine in comparison...

Let's just say that there are a lot of weeks where that stats line wouldn't get you the Offensive Player of the Week award...

JMO, of course.

And yet, going into the Lions game, his quarterback rating was actually lower than last year...

I still don't see much in Jason Campbell... that's not smack aimed at the Skins fans in here, that's a simple statement of fact... like I said, that 248 yards passing is his best yardage effort as a starter, and in this day and age, that's not real impressive...

Which is not to say he won't grow into a semi-decent starter, just that he ain't all that yet...

Romo had the worst game a QB could have and still threw for 300+ :laugh2: But Campbell will still become a FAR greater qb than Romo :lmao2:

243 yards and 2 TDs

that's ok

good that he completed 79% of his passes, but his numbers don't jump off the page, like SB said, it was more of the other better QBs being off than Campbell being great

Yes, good call. I believe even quincy was Offensive player of the week once or twice.

He was god awful though. JC is the spitting image of Quincy. Have a decent game or throw now and then, but by and large, he just didn't have "it".

it's only a matter of time before teams take away that deep pass by going to zone, and make Jason beat them by completing passes in the middle of the field

that was Quincy's downfall
