Roy Williams gets a free pass on all him mistakes, but everybody wants to jump on Newman as soon as someone catches a pass.

how about we all just hope for improvement and be happy with the win?lol

cmon yall

How about if you list all of the mistakes Roy made against San Diego, then we can jump on him for those?

Not everybody is jumping on Newman. I think Newman is a very good CB, I also think Roy Williams is a very good player in his own right. I think our secondary is going to be very good this season. Only weak link I see is Davis at this point but I feel he can improve the more he is out there.

I did not realize I was jumping on Newman.

Who exactly is "everybody" ?

Roy had a good game against San Diego, I was talking about in the past. Whenever someone catches a pass on Newman there are several threads/post about how much he sucks. But when Roy gets beat in coverege, it's "we're playing him out of position."

I don't think alot of people around here understand how difficult it is to play cornerback in the NFL right now. The rules that have been changed recently all favor the wr's. There are not many "shutdown" corners anymore. All corners are going to give up plays and big plays at that. The better corners will be the ones who minimize those big plays. Just because a corner gives up a 30 yard completion doesn't mean he's no good, but people will come on here and harp about so and so getting burnt. They don't have a clue.

rest assured, Adam is going to get in on the Newman debates........ I remember you chiming in on a post I made about him getting beaten several times last season..... He's young, I'm sure he will improve. I just want to see more ints from HIM........ :D

A cornerback's job is to prevent completed passes. A safety's job is to be a safety net (hence the name safety) in case the cornerbacks, linebackers and defensive line do not do their job.

It's much harder to fault a player whose job is to backup other positions when they wouldn't have had to back them up had the other positions done their job.

You know, he's not playing FS anymore.. He made some huge tackles for us on LT2 zooming in and making tackles for losses or no gains. He was huge on Sunday.

The only thing I dislike about Roy is he celebrates after EVERY tackle. Hey Roy, tackles are EXPECTED.

Leave Roy alone if he wants to get pumped up then let him. Irvin would get excited about making a 1st down nothing wrong with it if it keeps him pumped

that's the way it is in today's NFL. sometimes i don't like it either but as long as they're wearing a star i don't mind it as much :D

no kidding, everyone is raving about De Angelo Hall's "coming out" party and the job he did against TO....well i do agree he was phenomenal against TO but look at the stat sheet, TO still had a ton of catches and yards.
Anymore, I'm not sure Deion would even have been able to make the name for himself that he did with these current rules. We sure would've won that NFC championship game and beaten SD in the SB if these rules were in place back then.

Newman is a decent cornerback, nothing special imo. He's not a game changing player like Roy. He had one great game in his career where what he did mattered and that was in Washington his rookie year w/ 3 pics. I think he'll get a good test this week when covering Santana Moss. Roy Williams is a big safety and he's expected to get beat in coverage, that's not his thing. He's at his best around the line of scrimmage making tackles and delivering big hits. And that's what he does. I get frustrated w/ Newman like the rest of you. Personally, I think he's doing better this year. I watched the SD game again last night and only looked bad once. I don't think secondary is our issue, I think it's more of a pass rush and special teams problem.
