Can anyone give examples of how Garrett improved his playcalling?

He didn't give up on the run today. He tried to stay balanced.

He's gone to more of a zone scheme. Earlier in the year he was forcing power runs (something our team can't do).

He didn't get overly cute in the redzone.

Biggest thing in his favor though was the scoring from big plays.

Garretts weaknesses have never really been between the 20's.

When have you seen a team give up on the run with a big lead?

The most important thing he did was get Bryant the ball early -- he isn't patient enough to not get the rock for a few drives and still keep focus.

Our offensive play calling was very balanced today, especially early on. When we built a big lead, we leaned on our running game. Had we done that against Detroit, we'd have one less L on our record. It's really that simple.

I could be wrong, but it looked like we ran the exact formations we've ran every game.

I'll be sure to check Bob Sturm's page on decoding Garrett, and compare them to games past.

There was a lot less shotgun overall today, and in the red zone, not so much of the jumbo package.

We didn't have many first and goals today even though we scored 5 TDs. Two were on long pass plays and one was on an INT return. Romo threw a TD to Robinson early on one of those spin away from the blitz plays that he does.

The other one was when we finally punched one in with Murray. From what I recall we didn't line up with jumbo there. We spread it out with a couple of WRs and went from the power I. It was a welcome change from our previous failures with the Jumbo package.

He broke out of a lot of his old tendencies too this game because he could run the ball.

Taking homerun shots left and right and just had the pedal on the floor.

That is the best we have looked since we beat Philly in the playoffs. We haven't touched that level of play until today.

This. The defense had to play run today and that leaves the deep ball open. Its the chess match that is cool about football.

The big difference was that we were able to protect Romo. It's not a big surprise since Buffalo has almost zero pass rush when they're not playing the Commanders.

That allowed us to hit a couple of deep balls early, and they had to loosen up the rest of the way.

They just put their starting NT on IR, so it's not a big surprise we ran well, either. Even before Kyle Williams was injured, they weren't defending the run very well.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the victory. It was a good win against a team that has beaten good teams and played good teams close. However, the difference isn't the play calling, it's the results.

Just curious. We won the game 44-7, so it must be because the play calls have changed dramatically, since Garrett has been doing such a poor job this season.

Or perhaps, our execution level today was phenomenal. Our run blocking was great, and Romo had time in the pocket. It's as simple as that.

80% of the time, the gripes with playcalling are a joke.

Well your last sentence kinda answered itself there.

The playcalling is almost always not the problem.

Yes! It was a 1 TE/2WR/2Back set. I was stoked to see it, because I'd spent time before the game calling for it (though I said split set, forgetting that we don't have a split back formation :( ). Then we punched it in and I was even more excited. :D

it really comes down to first down yardage. let me explain. with Murray, we average about 2nd and 6 to go. with felix, it was about 2nd and 7.3

believe it or not, before and after murray, we were about 50/50 on run pass on first down.

the down and distance dictates tendencies and play calls on 2nd and 3rd down. now, with 2nd and 6 to go, we are about 40/60 run pass. as opposed to 30/70.

makes a huge difference.

I agree. It keeps the defense off balance. When you are facing 2nd and long or 3rd the defense has a very good idea of what play is coming. When you keep managable 2nd/3rd yardage the playbook get more wide open

Yes, he called a straight up run with Fiametta lead blocking behind Holland inside the 5. He also called for us to run in the second half with a lead instead of passing.

We are a much better team than the Bills and Romo is healthy. That's why it was a blowout.

Sorry but people get put into a category as a lover or hater. I want JG to suceed in the worse way. He brings lots of great qualities, but that does not mean someone can not be critical in situations and want him to do better for this team to become what it can be.

I saw improvements in his playcalling in this game, things it looks like he hopefully has learned form the past.

Improved play calling -
1. Ran the clock out before the end of half, try to pop a run or 2 and see what happens, but very conservative and not getting cute like he has in the past. He paid attention to the game situation and knew not to get aggressive there up big and allow something bad to occur.

2. Ran the ball on the 1 and a half yard line and punch it in. Not been his favorite play call this year.

3. Unlike the Detroit game did not get pass happy with the lead. Ran the ball and even when throwing kept it conservative with screens and short passes.

4. I thought he did a great job of balance within the offense overall. Other games I watch and we pass on first, run on 2nd and throw on 3rd over, and over, I could sit there and predict over and over run or pass, today he did much better mixing that up.

This is good to see. I want more. Really it is a matter of JG becoming more and more dedicated to the run when the situation calls for it and knowing when to pull in the reigns.

Now today, the big lead really helped him to play the game the way he did. I hope he continues to make these kinds of decsions when behind or in close games. But also know when to be aggressive to give your team the best chance to win unlike his decision to give Brady the ball at the end of the game instead of going for the first.

I really hope he sees Demarco is his meal horse and should be the engine that runs this thing.
