I do remember back when Campo had him, he blanketed Jimmy Smith in man coverage. :)

What I would like to know is, "What can we get FOR Roy?".

Seriously, I feel that Roy has been set back by being handcuffed by the "horsecollar rule", as well as a lack of confidence brought on by constant criticism by media & fans alike. I personally think it's a bad rule, but I digress. If we can trade Roy to a non-NFC Conference team, to a coach who can maximize his aggression and power, he can do well. We do need to seek now to trade him for as much as we can get before or during the draft.

I believe salary cap implication pretty much prevent that from happening. He signed a new contract a year or two ago.

I'll tell you what you'll get for Roy...A big bag of nothing.

Seriously.

Teams target him, all the time, to isolate in coverage cause he CAN NOT cover. He can't do it. He gets beaten to death. Shockey beats him and I gave him a pass cause it's Shockey. But when Boss is beating him...no. No more passes.

Every other team has seen the liability he is in coverage and they're NOT going to give you anything for him. You'd be lucky to get a 6th for him.

And, as mentioned, his salary cap hit prevents any such thing. To trade him, now, after he signed that new deal just two seasons ago would push the remainder of his signing bonus into this years cap, meaning about 7 million would come off your cap for a player you just traded off.

We're just going to have to learn to live with him for another couple of years and hopefully find creative ways to keep him out of one on one coverage.

The only person who could get anything out of Roy is Roy himself... Man up Roy and get it back together.
His name and reputation get him a lot of slack. But you're right...ultimately it's Roy that has to step up. If he can't, he needs to step up and do what's right for the team and say "I can't do this," and either move on or move out of the way and let somebody else take a shot.

Yea, we are kinda married to him now.

For everybody that wants to trade for McFadden, we better be right about him. We give McFadden $35 mill signing bonus and he is ours for a long, long, long, time. If he turns out to be a bust, we are screwed because we could not release/trade him for at least half a decade.

You think we are handcuffed with Roy, if McFadden is a bust we wont be handcuffed, we will be in a freaking straight jacket:(

DB4L, no offense guy - but this statement is kinda laughable. Roy is making it on reputation only. He is a shadow of the "catalytic" player he once was.

As far as I'm able to determine, the drop-off can't be explained by an injury - and age isn't even a concern. RW should be at about the peak of his powers. Yet, he is not. Quite conversely, the trend is that Roy is becoming more of a liability with each passing year. Helluva note - but just about an absolute by the reckoning of most.

I'm not sure what you are seeing - but I'm seeing a player lacking in the discipline and commitment he evidenced his first three seasons in the league. He's grown soft, passive - he's lost the animosity towards opponents that was the hallmark of his earlier play. The hunger that motivated him to be a "killer" has been sated by his huge contract. A contract, IMO, he hasn't come close to honoring.

And with each successively disappointing season it's looking less and less likely that he will recapture his original mindset and motivations.

I just cannot imagine the sordid state of boredom that would bring one to dredge up an old Roy Williams thread. We should all keep you in mind in our prayers such that you may be cured of this horrible affliction.

The guy has a right to post on threads, people who see the need to defend Roy must know that he's not the player everyone thought he was...
