Can Demarcus Lawrence be our version of JPP?

Given the offseason news and photos of Demarcus Lawrence and his physical transformation, he's starting to remind me of the Giants defensive end (minus the nonsense!).

I see a lot of similarities between the two players. Both were small school transfers and both amassed nearly identical college sacks numbers. (30 for Lawrence and 31 for JPP).

Pierre-Paul is longer at 6'5" to 6'3" with a 34 3/4in arm length for JPP, 33 3/4in for Lawrence, while Lawrence is stronger - 19 reps for JPP with 20 for Lawrence. And if offseason reports are accurate, I would expect Lawrence's strength to have increased significantly.

40 yard dash comparisons place both very close - 4.67 reported for Pierre-Paul and 4.69 reported for Lawrence.

This post is in no way saying Lawrence is in Pierre-Paul's proven class yet, only that with continued work and progress, perhaps he could be.

And minus the off-the-field nonsense, that would be a nice place for both him and the Cowboys to be.

I don't care what each did at the combine, JPP is definately stronger than Lawrence. Maybe Lawrence closed the gap the offseason and maybe JPP will never be the same after the injury, but JPP has pushed around really powerful LTs like Tyron Smith and Trent Williams too many times for me to believe his 19 reps is an indicator of how strong he is now

You're likely right. Having been exposed to NFL training, both players are likely significantly stronger than their combine/pro days.

I can't speak to Pierre-Paul, but the praise has been flowing for Lawrence since his rookie season.

Gregory isn't built in the way stash is talking, so while gregory may be better, he won't be like JPP. Gregory hopefully ends up like Jason Taylor, Simeon Rice or Charles Haley

Yeah, exactly right. I see Gregory as the Charles Haley/Simeon Rice type of pass rusher - less power and bulk, more speed and fluidity.

Didn't say he was built like JPP. I was comparing football desire.

JPP is a freakish athlete
I think production wise Dlaw could be a similar player but he will never be the athlete JPP is
Dlaw has really added some bulk and he has a good set of moves
I think he is going to have a fine season
Gregory does remind me of Taylor and hopefully can develope into that quality of a player

LT played riding the white horse. Can't teach or mimic that kind of desire.

D-Law came on nicely towards the end of last season. He still has a great deal to prove before he approaches JPP's level of talent and production. The measurables are there and the desire seems to be also or he wouldn't have improved physically as dramatically as he did in the offseason. Yet, his status still depends on his progress.

those are just measurable to see if the athleticism is there. what it doesn't show is play recognition and processing and reaction time (vision for defensive players) to what they see. that's what sets players apart more than anything else. PP was at times a beast, on how he reacted and controlled the OL men and was able to get to the QB. I am not convinced that Lawrence can be that, but then again we won't need him to. He is moving to the strong side and has to deal with a lot of double teams and he will be attacking the QB directly and not from his blind side.

I think a better comparison in a couple of years will be randy Gregory. he is a little slight right now, but if continues to put on some muscle, he has the athleticism to be special.

If the Last two games are any indication on how well D-Law is going to playing moving forward.. Then I think he can be just as disrupting as JPP. This shouldn't be a problem being he has a year under his belt to get fully healthy and the added "premier" talent he will be surrounded by. I truely believe our DL is going to win games for us this year.. We would have been better last year if it wasn't for a few injuries to promising players like Gardner, Terrell McClain, and Jack Crawford. Add talented players like Hardy, Tyron Crawford (now settled into his new position), Gregory, D-law (missed the first nine games).. Mark my Words..THIS DL WILL BE SCARY.

And I haven't even mentioned the other players I like.. Mincey, Whaley, and Russell
