I wouldn't put him at JPP status just yet, but his arrow is pointing up as JPP's is pointing down.
Considering JPP's recent injury, I would say Lawrence is better than JPP will be this year. But I just don't see him at JPP's level (in his prime) just yet. I have to see it on the field first. What I will say is that I think Lawrence can exceed what JPP was in the very near future. And that's a very, very good thing.
JPPs prime was pretty short lived.
Given the offseason news and photos of Demarcus Lawrence and his physical transformation, he's starting to remind me of the Giants defensive end (minus the nonsense!).
I see a lot of similarities between the two players. Both were small school transfers and both amassed nearly identical college sacks numbers. (30 for Lawrence and 31 for JPP).
Pierre-Paul is longer at 6'5" to 6'3" with a 34 3/4in arm length for JPP, 33 3/4in for Lawrence, while Lawrence is stronger - 19 reps for JPP with 20 for Lawrence. And if offseason reports are accurate, I would expect Lawrence's strength to have increased significantly.
40 yard dash comparisons place both very close - 4.67 reported for Pierre-Paul and 4.69 reported for Lawrence.
This post is in no way saying Lawrence is in Pierre-Paul's proven class yet, only that with continued work and progress, perhaps he could be.
And minus the off-the-field nonsense, that would be a nice place for both him and the Cowboys to be.
I don't care what each did at the combine, JPP is definately stronger than Lawrence. Maybe Lawrence closed the gap the offseason and maybe JPP will never be the same after the injury, but JPP has pushed around really powerful LTs like Tyron Smith and Trent Williams too many times for me to believe his 19 reps is an indicator of how strong he is now
Anyone have a link to these physical transformation photos? I guess I missed that.
From February, I can't tell:

Physically, Lawrence is 10% better than JPP now.

If Gregory and DLaw combine for 8-10 sacks, most of us will be thrilled.
Even 16 sacks, while a great stat, is one play per game. I love sacks, but what I really want to see is more consistent pressure; I want someone to bring the heat, move the QB off his mark and change passing windows even if the number of sacks are not there. I also want an athletic guy who bats balls down. If the combination of Lawrence, Gregory, Mincy, and others can produce that, I'll be happy.
