I can believe it. I have a good friend and a family member both diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and I know the drugs that were to prescribed to both of them.
They both preferred medical marijuana over those psychoactive emotion inhibitors and now both of them claim they can't live without it.

I honestly don't blame them. Those drugs they give to those poor people are awful.

I know some people with these issues also. The drugs can be effective, but the same drug and dose does not work for everybody. It is an iterative process of trying different drugs and different doses until the finding the right ones. It requires a good doctor that will spend the time trying to get it right and not just going the the one solution fits everybody approach. It also require the patent to take the drugs as scheduled. If people don't believe that it will work, bit probably won't.

There are a lot of question marks surrounding this guy, but I want to focus on his playing weight a bit.

Does anyone think this guy can be an innovative, situational type pass rusher at 235lbs?

Personally, I'm starting to warm up to the idea due to where he was drafted-- great talent, but not great opportunity cost, so limited role may be okay.

Take for instance, undersized pass rushersike Von Miller and Bruce Irvin-- hybrid type guys that can get after the QB. Could that be Gregory?

What do you guys think?

I have little doubt that he could play RDE in this scheme at around 240. In some ways, his arm length and strength are more important.

Draft weights:
Von Miller 6'2-5/8", 246
Bruce 6'3, 245
Randy Gregory 6'4-7/8", 235

Miller and Irvin both played in a 4-3. Irvin was a pass rush specialist at DE his 1st season. In his 2nd season he played LB on base downs and played as a situational pass rushing DE in passing situations.

You are so right and it is a very difficult process in that the person involved is already working with a... ... ... "problematic" brain in the first place. So difficult... It's a terrible thing when your own brain constantly betrays your better judgement and you cannot control it.

I'm not referring to the individuals that can and just do anyways. I have zero sympathy for people who cognitively do stupid things, but I do have sympathy for people that have legitimate issues and they are out there.
My father had a head injury and I saw for 33 years what it did to him. People born with mental... ... challenges gain my deepest support and sympathies.

Within reason.

My going off on this subject is now ended. Back to... whatever it is that I do here. Not much really.

I like that he's 6-5. There doesn't seem to be that many tall pass rushers coming out lately.

I think Gregory has the wheels and physicality to play LB if necessary. I see him as a PR specialist yr 1, pro training regimen will make him FT DE next season. I don't feel he'd be a liability at either spot.

The Cowboys have stated that they expect him to be around 255 through the conditioning phases.

His height and arm length will be major tools, along with his instincts already. He is with Marinelli now, and that is as important as it was for Simeon Rice.

His weight is the last thing I worry about. Haley was a terror for us and the Niners at 245lbs.

His bi-polar issues and or the pot issue are primary concerns.

Depending the severity of the disorder. Is it Bi-Polar or Bi-Polar II? Just so everyone knows bipolar disorder is under the mood disorder category in the DSM-V and it basically a disorder where people have extreme moods usually very depressed to euphoria. People with this disorder have trouble regulating their moods and that is where illicit substances such as marijuana comes in. Also because it is on the mood disorder category there are also other disorders like depression, anxiety, PTSD that people might exhibit similar behaviors. With proper meds(if necessary) and treatment, it can be managed. Hopefully, Gregory can get the right diagnosis and treatment if he does have a mental disorder. Also just FYI, this should be nothing to be ashamed of as there are a lot of disorders that many of us could have. There is a disorder that a lot of people can have if they have difficulty adjusting to some change in there life known as Adjustment Disirder.

Gregory's trainer, Ryan Goldin, said he was down to 235 only because of a stomach virus. He was 238 a week later at Nebraska's pro day and 243 at another workout in late March.

I heard someone say (I think it may have been an NFL Network announcer or someone who saw him at the Combine) that he was 245 at the Combine.

As I tell my son with Asperger's, everyone has something wrong with them or some challenge they have to overcome. Everyone.

So true and your son is a brave young man. With your support and others, I am sure he will have the self-confidence to overcome this disorder.

I did not read through all of the replies to this thread but my take is if you are a football player it does not matter how heavy your are. I think he is a football player and will do fine if we take care of him properly.

I've used that one. Cough...cough...hey boss...not feeling great. Must have caught a stomach thing from the kids...

If I had to drop 15 lbs every time in order to make it believable, I'd have to find some other fake malady. This seems really convenient.

I am repeating what Norm was saying on the radio.

I apologize. I'm not criticizing you. I'm targeting those in the media who report this with no knowledge or facts. Furthermore, if Gregory has been diagnosed as bi-polar, that information should be confidential. Granted, the media aren't restricted by confidentiality standards like medical professionals. But where did decorum and respect go?
