Can I get a plain ole football question answered?

This one's easy. Regular coaches coach players, right? But coaches need coaches too, you know? So a head coach coaches the coaches. Simple as that.

A head coach really isn't needed. All you need is a defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and GM (manager of personnel).

The head coach is just a figurehead. The above three can do everything a head coach does.

At some point, a team will figure it out and save money by not having a head coach. And when it works, every team will do it.

So what happens when these Coordinators start getting into it, cause one of the three is sucking and the other two have to pick up the slack?

What happens when the ref asks if they want to decline a penalty, who gets to choose?

What happens when you need to throw the red flag?

The Head Coach is the central figure of the team. He is the onfield CEO. He delegates responsibility to his supervisors (coaches). Those coaches then delegate responsibility to the workers (players). The Head Coach is there there to make sure the operation is running smoothly.....all 3 facets of the game are in proper working order......all angles and bases are covered.....egos are massaged......and a buffer between the players and officials.......and sometimes the players and the media.

The Head Coach is a vital and integral part of any sport. Having no Head Coach would be like having no shop forman, no principal, no office manager, no shepherd that leads the flock to greener pastures.....

NO Head Coach = EPIC FAILURE for franchise

Why bother? Lame attempt at trying to be funny and insulting at the same time...very creative:rolleyes:

I agree with most of what i've read here. A Head Coach is a manager basically. Anyone ever worked at a restaurant? You always have like 3 assistant managers who are cool and then the General Manager who lays the smack down. Maybe not the greatest analogy when it come to Wade. That is his role though, like it or not. Because he is the one that has to answer to the great Jerry Jones. He must be tougher on the team than we realize. Something is going on we don't see...

With this guy, you forgot distribute steroids to the players.

Head Coaches have multiple duties. These guys are for the most part the final say on any situation. The referees will be going to them. The Coordinators go to them. A Head Coach can veto any idea though they usually are not that staunch. Yes, they actually do Coach football. Most of them are involved in every aspect of the coaching, even Special Teams. I have never seen anyone work harder than my college Head Coach. He was at the Office by 4:00 AM and usually didn't get home until 10:00 PM or later some nights. They often sleep in their offices.

Sooooooooooooooooo when are the Boys going to get one of those?;)

I'm assuming your joking.

No offense to the OP, but that is funny. How did you create that?

None taken. I'm use to getting a smart comment here and there (if that was the intention) I usually don't respond either way. I know I could have searched the internet for an answer , but I chose to ask it here where I have alot of respect for most posters.
I got some good answers from several people:)

I suppose when the self-professed realists get their resumes together.

Nothing to see here, move along.

If I posted here that we do have a head coach, and it's Jerry Jones, it would start a flame and too much commotion, so I won't.
:D

Am I the only one who gets a kick out of the fact that we have a 100% non-discriminatory language filter here at Cowboyzone? :laugh1:

He didn't create it, it's actually a JavaScript application that parses the text that's added to the end of the URL (in this case the OP's question) and the code on the web page does the rest. I've written similar things myself. Yeah I know, nerd alert. lol.

Different approaches to being a head coach--I've always liked the Bear Bryant approach: hire great coaches and let them coach, you then become a manager of coaches--never liked the dictators like parcells

On the staffs that I was a part of, the three QBs we held were mine. My "position" responsibilities included individual position specific breakdowns, fundamental reinforcement, adjustments in technique which of course varied from player to player, HOWEVER, each of these coaching points HAD TO FIT WITHIN THE SCOPE OF OUR OFFENSIVE SCHEME...

I answered to our OC, and he of course the HC.

:hammer:

My head coach and DC had to have some type of compulsive disorder. I never in my life witness some one that would work as hard as those two men would. It is not a coincidence that many coaches are divorced or shunned by their families. For the love of the game, they sacrifice a great deal. Head coaches on any level have my utmost respect.

This statement is diametrically opposite of right.
