How long do we have JJ locked up for and does his contract void anytime soon? Does anyone think we will get him resigned?

I noted this down when we signed Julius last year.

The Cowboys were all smiles Thursday after signing rookie running back Julius Jones to a six-year, $4.37 million deal, which sources said includes a $1.9 million signing bonus and voids to four years based on variables such as playing time.

In order to shorten the deal from six years to four, Jones must play in 15 percent of the offensive snaps this season (2004). If Jones does not play in 15 percent of the snaps, he can shorten the contract by playing in at least 30 percent of the snaps in any of the next three seasons.

So what happens when Jones, Witten, Roy, Bernette, Ware, Spears and Canty become big stars and want more money?? It sucks building a team, then turn around and having to watch players leave to get their pay day from another team because of the cap. Seems the salary cap should have exemptions for players you've drafted. It stops teams from stockpiling key free agents and rewards teams for good drafts. Say jones becomes the top back in the league. His median salary jumps to a few million a year or market price and the cowboys can't fit his new contract under the cap so he bolts to the highest bidder. Why should the boys be penalized cause we hit on a lower drafted player who vaulted up to the best in the league and lost him due to the cap? Say a team is at $0 left under the cap after signing their last guy, a 7th round player. He's only going to make a few $100k a year. What happens if his contract gets voided down to a couple years because he's become the best player. Then his market rate of $300k goes to $2 million but they can't afford (cap wise) him at free agency. It seems you'd rather have that 7th rounder who fits nicely under the cap remain a solid player and only worth $300k a year vs $3 mil and be outstanding and leosing him. What is the most high paid players a team has ever had and kept them?

If my logic is flawed let me know...it is 4:12 am after all :)

Yeah thats what I was afraid of, that JJ, Roy, Witten, Canty, Ware, Spears, Burnett are going to bolt. We really need to get JJ taken care of.

Well, what a dilemma that would be. Actually having players worth paying to keep around. :)
