I include Nzeocha in that race. It's mainly going to be a STs spot.

I'm not factoring him in at all. With Lee starting at WLB, and Hitchens and Wilson as potential backups, I see the rookie going to IR and effectively 'red-shirted' this year. I think his presence just further clouds the picture and stresses the 53-man roster.

Well, Brinkley might now end up the starter for the first 4 games. Unless they go with Hitchens. Given the McLain/Ragonk suspension.

You can't put someone on IR just because you feel like it. It will be 9 months since his knee surgery once camp begins. And this is a guy who ran a fast 40 time pre draft.

No, but you can if he's not ready to play.

And I just dont see where he fits right now, to say nothing of his recovery.

Nope, he's on my list of guys that are on the bubble going into camp; never been impressed with him.

There is no reason to think at this point that he would not be ready. He will have more than enough time to pass a physical long before the season starts. Most likely he will be good to go at the start of camp.

It was a torn ACL as I understand it. And less than a year ago. If the team wants to rush him back, I'm sure they could. And if they wanted to give him more time to recover, I think they could do that as well.

I see little reason to rush back a project player at an already crowded position.

9 months is not rushing back.

According to you maybe. Most reports are that it takes at least a year to recover and sometimes two to put it completely behind you.

Question: How Long Does ACL Tear Rehab Take? Can ACL Rehab Be Accelerated?

Standard ACL rehab takes 7 to 9 months to complete. For many athletes, not only does this mean the end of their athletic season, but it may interfere with their being ready for the next season. But can ACL tear rehab be sped up? How long do you have to wait before returning to sports after ACL surgery?

It's all individualized, thus variable to the specific player and injury. Teams have some leeway in judging a player's rehab progress, and the medical team's official documentation of health is not frequently challenged.

Brinkley is a declining JAG. A dinosaur in this league with the way teams spread you out and throw the ball. That was an odd signing.

Disagree. You still have to earn the right to rush the passer. Brinkley can still be a force in the run game.

He was running a 40 before the draft. Do you really think it is likely he ends up on IR?

Even if hitch starts you need depth so he probably makes the roster, at least f

I suspect hitch will be on the field in the middle most of the time but I could see Brinkley getting some early down snaps but we will be in the NICKLE more than the base and that's probably means Brinkley will get to watch more than he players

I'm curious about this issue.

It's seems borderline either way on whether or not they could keep him on the PUP/IR.

He ran a forty and all of that pre-draft, but I don't know if that is enough to prevent them from putting him on the PUP or not.

The entire process around PUP/IR eligibility is interesting and I rarely hear comments from any experts on the details of the subject.

My guess is that the requirements for PUP are a little more lenient than for IR, but that's just a guess based on some comments I've heard in the past.

I have this one that talks about a year plus. It seems that different doctors feel differently.

My belief is that as long as he doesn't practice with the team in training camp, he's eligible for PUP and then ultimately IR.

With $2 million guaranteed on his deal, I think he's a lock to make the team. And I think he provides a great insurance policy for McClain in the middle.

Reports say he looked even better than advertised in OTA's and minicamp where he got a lot of the work.

Good run stopper and good 1st and 2nd down guy.
