Can Romo be saved?

Romo is one of the most mentally tough QBs in the game IMHO. Can throw 5 picks and go out like it never happened and lead the team to a win.

One of the things I like about him.

I'm a huge Romo fan but I don;t know how you can say this. December is in the guys head. Last minute drives are in the guys head. That's not a knock on him but he hears the criticism, You can take it when you're 24 but when you;re 34 with limited chances left, he's got to be pressing.

It is too late for Romo.

The die has been cast with him. No QB guru is going come in and undo the damage that has been hardwired into him. No head coach is going to be able to get in his head and change anything. His QB puberty was over a long time ago and there is no going back.

This was a discussion we should have had when Parcells left. Instead we let David Lee walk and brought back a stooge do-nothing yes-man In The Family Portrait QB coach like Wade Wilson.

Sad but true. Hiring Cupcake and later Red who had limited coaching experience spelled the end for Romo. He'll hold just about every passing record in Dallas by the time he's done but he'll never sniffed the SB. Give Romo a real HC in his early (starting) career and it would be a completely different story. Just a complete waste.

He's done fine in both December and in late minute drives. You guys really are starting to get embarrassing with your overreaction and selective memory.

You're not following along. I like Romo but no one can say with any certainty that a QB is "mentally tough" when he's 33 years old and his December record is something like 11 and 17. It's not fair but he's the QB and the QB and coach get the hook for the loss. Multiple games this season he's had the ball with minutes left and couldn't pull out a win on his final drive. Worse yet, he threw an untimely INT. That's got to be in the back of someone's mind the next time he takes the field in that same scenario.

It's not fair. Romo's numbers are off the charts. We should have won against GB, just like we should have won against Detroit and Denver this year. Romo should never have been in a position to pull off another miracle on the final drive. But, unfortunately, he was and he threw another INT. That's the collar he wears, fair or not.

And you need to ask yourself who's being embarrassed here. There's no over reaction, at least by me. I'm a Romo apologist and I know where the real issues lie with this team. But at the end of the day, if Romo is to be a playoff or SB caliber QB, he needs to get over that collar. He'll face multiple opponents on the road through the playoffs where he has to carry his team and make sound decisions. Even worse, he's 33 and past his prime and his skill set is fading. You can chose to ignore it. I see it and I don't put everything on Romo's shoulders; Garrett and Jones wasted the best years of Romo's career so Jones can feel comfortable with a "yes man" HC. But Romo is not completely free of some blame either.

Every week half of the quarterbacks in the league throw untimely interceptions. He's done fine in both December and in late minute drives and he'll be fine going forward. Fish is good for your memory.

No sweat. Nice reply and way to back it up. In any event, I don;t need fish to remind me of what I saw 2 days ago and earlier this season. Maybe you need glasses or these things don't come across too clearly when you're reading the closed caption.

What does this mean really? Can he be a game manager? I guess but I think he's at his best/worst when he's gunslinging.

People might not want to hear this or accept it and that's fine but imo, Romo is heading towards the end. Besides the critical mistakes, He just doesn't look like the same QB. Missing throws that he would make in his sleep a few years ago.

I have not given up on Romo. I have given up on the system, he needs a tough coach. He needs coach that tells him what he has to do. Not a coach he tells what too do.

IMO, he needs to be with a coach who wants to play smashmouth football. As Parcells warned us, you to keep Romo under control.

Your thoughts..

He could have been saved if he had chosen not to re-sign with Dallas and instead went to team with a defense and smart offensive scheme. (Kansas City, anyone?)

Instead, he's doomed to play on a team with a defense that can't stop anyone and an offensive-minded head coach who's in over his Ivy League head.

Yes, if Dallas recognizes that he is not a god and stops asking him to win the game with his arm.

Of course, just take the ball out of his hands the last 5 minutes of the game if we have a lead. Romo can play great football the rest of the game! Such a simple solution!

With elite QB money being paid to him, he's the QB for a the next 2 or 3 years so there you go...

That would be a simple solution if Dallas had a defense that hasn't given up TD drives in less than a minute and half.

I lost faith in Romo some time ago. I haven't changed my mind. Maybe if we had good coaches after Parcells left that could have helped him, it might have made a difference. He's too old to change who he is now. He's a good Qb but nothing more.

The saving should have been done when he was 27-28 years old. (The Wade years)

Unfortunately, this is it. We know what we have in Romo. Hes a good player, but never a great one we should and could rely on in a consistent basis.

Romo is who he is....his body of work shows that he chokes at the end of the year when the pressure and importance of games are at their highest. Tony just finds ways to lose in December.

We need to start a movement to get a new coach (Auburn coach Gus Mazahn) and draft a QB (A.J. McCarron). I think these two would be a winning combination.

I tire of being argumentative, but this team has no linebackers(Durant was put on IR today) and a non existent pass rush. Why must we spend time on the QB who has 17 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions in his teams losses?

We have a defense that cant stop a nose bleed and a head coach that thinks he is playing Madden......................and yet we have a thread asking if the QB can be saved.....................wow.

He can be saved if the ball is given to his featured back 20-25 times a game consistently, with or without a lead and if he is put on a pitch count (30 or less). Then and only then, will he be saved. Just like Farve, Elway & Young were saved by a rushing attack. Murray is Romo's savior.

I got a better question, can Romo save this defense or coaching staff? The odds are against him, but I think he
