Can someone tell me why Taco Charlton is an LDE?

The agility numbers show a player with comparable agility scores to Joey Bosa, Chandler Jones and Greg Hardy. The tap shows a getting off the ball and around the corner playing most of the season with a high ankle sprain.

Its seems a common belief around here that he is an LDE only. Can someone explain?

SDE requires someone that can take on double teams from the tackle and TE. It is a much more physically demanding position and requires size and strength that the WDE does not.

The WDE is typically your best pass rusher because it is harder to shift help to that side and most QBs face away from them when they drop back. You also don't need the size to handle double teams. That doesn't mean size wouldn't help.

There is no reason whatsoever that a WDE needs to be a smaller player. Given the reality of motion and the talent of NFCE LT ideally you would want two guys with size and pass rush ability.

I don't get the infatuation with TJ Watt when you run a 4-3. He went to the best situation for him. A 3-4 team.
Cause u can't teach drive motivation and work ethic. He's just like his brother in that regard.

Stephen/Garrett/Jerry said RDE for Taco.

Hardy was RDE and Marinelli loved Hardy.

Watt's explosion and violent hands were consistent and violent... Taco has length, size and flashes explosion. Dallas seems to feel that he can hold up durability wise and I think it's obvious they worry about that with TJ. Taco has bend that's rare for a guy his size. He's very inconsistent I don't think it's effort or motor. if he learns to use his hands he'll be fantastic.

First it needs to be pointed out that most scouts see him as LDE. So this isn't fans dreaming this up. As you pointed out he played with high ankle sprain so he is owed a chance at RDE. Also, I think it worth pointing out that Taco has the physical make-up and came from great program to really level up in NFL. Biggest concern shouldn't be if he will play RDE or LDE its is he deathly afraid of failing and willing to do anything and everything to succeed for his own satisfaction.

I realize the honey is flowing right now for Taco after the draft. But even if you convinced me that Watt would be slightly out of position at DE in 4-3, I still think he would get more sacks that Taco. But Dallas was looking for complete player and was willing to accept less sacks for durability & probably better against run.

I don't care what side he gets sacks from myself
Just get sacks

Many scouts feel he is an RDE too. He should be able to play either. But he has all the traits teams look for in an RDE. Ive seen alot of empty " He is an LDE" stuff going around with no basis or backing

Right now he is probably LDE but if he experiences type of growth Justin Tuck had when he came into the league it probably won't matter where Taco plays because he will be disruptive.

Doesn't Joey Bosa play on the left, Chandler Jones at Sam, and Greg Hardy doesn't play anywhere?

I wanted Watt, still do. I didn't even look at Taco because everyone said he was a LE. I was shocked when I watched him. I see those flashes of explosion, I see the bend.... I just don't see it often. He also seems to get penetration and then miss way to often, I don't know if it's balance or what.. He's got so much possibility, but he's a projection to RE more so than Watt in my opinion. I think durability and ceiling are why they picked him.
