Jerry says he will not stand in Ireland's way to become the GM in Miami but also says personnel guys cannot leave until after the draft. Parcells has said he want to hire a coach and GM quickly. I don't think Jerry will let Ireland go before the draft because all the hard work he has put in so far this year will simply go to benefit Miami. No way Parcells can wait until after the draft to hire Ireland so my question is this: Does that mean that if Parcells wants to hire Ireland before the draft in April, he will have to work out some type of compensation for Jerry to let him leave early and if so, what should we expect that compensation to be?

I know this has been talked about but it has mostly been fans speculating. In light of Jerry's most recent comments, I'm trying to figure out if he is willing to just let Ireland go or if he is angling for compensation.

Sounds like he expects compensation if he leaves before the draft. Don't know if we'd get it or not though.

This is called talking out of both sides of your mouth.

My take is that if Ireland wants to go, Jerry is not going to play hardball. I think this is probably "returning the Garrett favor" to Miami.

However, the one condition Jerry is not backing away from it appears is that Ireland has to do our draft for us this year before he leaves. We probably have been scouting college players all year long and we would be screwed if Ireland just walks out the door with all that info.

Isn't Jerry shedding light on it if he said that? What makes you think any of us are more plugged in than Jerry?

Thats what I don't understand. No way Parcells waits until after the draft to hire a GM. So either Ireland will be out of the running or Jerry will ask for compensation to let him leave in the next few weeks? Is that what everyone thinks is going to happen?

Sounds like Jerry isnt going to try to hard to keep Ireland, as long as Miami waits till after the draft.

His comments sounded like "he can leave, but after the draft". I am kinda surprised we are not going to put up more of a fight to keep him.

Please tell me Ireland's replacement is not freaking Lacewell, anybody but Lacewell. :D

His quotes to me seem pretty cut and dry.Of course it's been a year since I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. :D

I was looking more for someone who actually knows the NFL rules pertaining to personnel guys switching teams and if there is any precedant for getting compensation for letting a guy go before the draft.

I thought the NFL had outlawed trading coaches for compensation? Except in cases where they were stolen away improperly.

Being GM for Parcells might be a bit like being a GM for Jerry.....

I don't think it's payback for Garrett. I think it's simply a case of Jerry not wanting to get a reputation of standing in a guy's way if he is offered a promotion. If Jerry get's that reputation, or if anyone get's that reputation... it'll be hard to get new people in because they know Jerry won't let them take a promotion.

I do think Jerry will probably demand that Ireland stick around until after the draft... which in turn will make Parcells go in another direction because he doesn't want to wait.

At least that's what I'm hoping for.

I agree but my point was that there is no way Parcells can wait until after the draft to hire a GM. He will be expecting his GM (Ireland) to run this years draft but theres no way Jerry can allow Ireland to leave before the draft and take all the knowledge he has accumulated on this years players to Miami while Jerry has been paying his salary all along. To allow that, I would think serious compensation would be in order.

Jerry's willing to let Ireland go

Sure doesn't sound like Jerry plans to take my advice of resigning as GM and giving Jeff Ireland the title to keep him around Valley Ranch.

Matter of fact, Jerry sounds prepared to let Ireland reunite with Bill Parcells in Miami -- after the draft.
"In personnel, no one can leave until after the draft," Jones said. "The only thing I'm concerned about in personnel is that we get the benefit of all the work that's been done to run our draft. As far as sitting there with personnel, someone being given an opportunity to be a general manager or the opportunity to be over there, I'll help him. "If Jeff got a chance to advance himself, then I'm all for it."

Sure he can. Miami scouts have put in just as much work as Ireland has. Parcells keeps those guys on until after the draft and hires Ireland afterwards for the upcoming year. I don't think that's inconceivable.

I'm listening to the Primetime podcast right now, and they talked to Parcells in Miami for quite a while. He said he wants to decide and do something very quickly on the GM and coach situation. Mort and Keyshawn took that to mean in the next couple of weeks at the latest. The impression I got is that they also thought Parcells would like to also fill those positions very quickly... In which case Ireland wouldn't be an option.

But maybe Parcells would just fire Cameron and Mueller right away and then wait several months to go after Ireland?

It's what Houston did with Charlie Casserly. Everyone knew he was getting replaced long before the season ended, yet they kept him on until after the draft.

Well, that's a good sign.

It's really simple.

If Parcells want's Ireland now he must give Jerry something to make Jerry consider letting him out of his contract before the draft.

If Parcells wants to wait till after the draft then Jerry is not going to stand in his way.
