Jerry says he will not stand in Ireland's way to become the GM in Miami but also says personnel guys cannot leave until after the draft. Parcells has said he want to hire a coach and GM quickly. I don't think Jerry will let Ireland go before the draft because all the hard work he has put in so far this year will simply go to benefit Miami. No way Parcells can wait until after the draft to hire Ireland so my question is this: Does that mean that if Parcells wants to hire Ireland before the draft in April, he will have to work out some type of compensation for Jerry to let him leave early and if so, what should we expect that compensation to be?
I know this has been talked about but it has mostly been fans speculating. In light of Jerry's most recent comments, I'm trying to figure out if he is willing to just let Ireland go or if he is angling for compensation.
Glad you asked, please see below.....:)

Sounds like Jerry isnt going to try to hard to keep Ireland, as long as Miami waits till after the draft.

His comments sounded like "he can leave, but after the draft". I am kinda surprised we are not going to put up more of a fight to keep him.

If Jerry's saying "he can leave, but after the draft", he's effectively saying "you can't have him, Miami"... there's no way that Parcells and the Fins would wait until early May to hire Ireland to be their next GM... they're gonna need their GM in place ASA freakin' P...

What is your problem? We have Jerry, right?

Besides, do you think Ireland is the ONLY personnel guy in the NFL?

From what I've read, if Ireland was to leave, his right hand man Tom Ciskowski (sp.?) would be in line to step up... Spagnola seems to thing this guy could handle the job just fine...

I'd rather keep Ireland, though...

You act as if Ireland was one of Parcells' guys. He wasn't. He was hired before Parcells got here and promoted to VP at Lacewell's urging.

And you can bet that Parcells had to give his blessing on it as well. The only reason the position was even open to Ireland in the first place is because Parcells sent Lacewell packing and vacated the position for him. If there's no Parcells, Lacewell is still Jerry's right hand man. As soon as Parcells was gone, Lacewell was right back at the Ranch again.

All Parcells has to do is offer Ireland the GM promotion with "final say" and there is nothing JJ can do to stop Parcells from hiring Ireland.

I dont think that is correct. From what I have read, the "promotion loophole" is only for coaches and does not apply to front office personnel.

Also, the contracts of most front office personnel go through the draft.

The way it looks, Jerry can tell the Fins to "f off" until after the draft and then Jerry can release Ireland from his contract.
