What do you guys think, if he could it would be huge for the team, and would give us one of the better coverage FS's in the NFL, but is he a good enough tackler? Can he line up the DB's? I'd love to keep him on the roster and give him the opportunity, as this draft class in FS is really weak and im not really happy with the idea of bringing in a free agent and having to replace them in 4-5 years.

Time to ship T-New out of here. I don't think he can hold up as a safety. He's 33 and is on the decline. Cut bait and draft Prince or Brandon Harris and sign Huff in FA.

Personally, I don't think Newman would make a good FS for a couple of reasons. He's pretty decent in man coverage, but I've never been all that impressed with how he plays off of receivers. He's a cover corner, and I'm not sure he'd have the instincts to play safety.

Second, I question his tackling ability and his durability. Yeah, he can tackle, but he's never been a sure tackler, and he does seem to have injuries most years.

We need to keep our best CB at CB.

I also don't think he's a good candidate to make a switch to safety. If we wanted to go that route, I'd be more interested in seeing Champ Bailey come in. I think Champ's a player who's going to have a long career and a bit of a revival at safety a la Rod Woodson or Ronnie Lott.

I think he's a great candidate to move to FS. That assumes we have somebody to play CB in his place. He is the best tackler of all the CBs and as good as Sensi. He has great range and speed. I'd love to get a CB and move him to FS.

Because he's about to make 8 mill and he's not an 8 million dollar corner much less a safety.

+ he's glass.

How many starting CBs make more than $8M?

No clue but the guys who do are all playing at a much higher level than Newman.

33 year old playing at his level won't see that cash fom Jerry.

He's gotta rework his deal or he's gone. He maybe gone anyways with Asomugha available.

Glass? Newman has played 8 years and has only missed time in 2 of those years. Polamalu has been in the league 8 years started 7 years and missed time in 4 of those years. I don't hear many people claiming he is glass.

For all the talk of how injury prone Newman is he has not missed much time

No. But, he would be a "very successful" safety for the Commanders from a Cowboy standpoint.:D

I'd like to see T-New as a safety for the Skins or Giants.

Newman at FS = Alan Ball. No thanks. I think our FS should actually be a FS.

How do you come up with that? Sounds like you are just making random insinuations.

It's CowboysZone. You're supposed to start and play 16 games out of 16 every single year.

Nevermind the fact that they guy was playing with jacked up ribs this year when any lesser player would've been out for 2-4 weeks.

I agree I just don't get the notion he is injury prone. Yes he got banged up this season welcome to the NFL where most guys are dealing with injuries as for time missed Newman has missed allot less time than many of the other top CB in the league.

As for the question of him playing Safety I'm not so sure about that I would get a safety if I need a safety not try to make him into something he is not.

I never said his injuries take him off the field. But he does come up hobbled A LOT.

I gotta a lot of respect for his game.

He's more of a see receiver cover receiver type player.

You back him off the receiver and he becomes less effective.

I wouldn't qualify him as injury prone, but Newman has played quite a few games with injuries over the last couple of years and I think it's shown in his play.

alot of guys are playing with injuries and it shows with them as well. I don't think the guy is a safety I think he is best suited for the job of CB.
