I would rather make the playoffs and get trounced than not make the playoffs at all. Any playoff season gives you hope regardless how it turns out.

me too, at least you get the one playoff game, which you never know they might win.
Dallas as div champ would host WC teams like minn, GB, or Seattle for the 1st game, and could maybe beat any of those 3.

however I havent seen anything to make me think dallas can win enough games to win the div.

The Seahawks and Panthers have both made the playoffs in recent years with seven wins- and won in the wild card. And since then they've been two of the conference's elite teams.

If the Cowboys can pull that off, they'd head into the offseason with their heads held high. I say go for it.

Can The Cowboys Run The East With Only Seven Wins?

The Dallas Cowboys sit comfortably at 3-8 just waiting to strike. On Monday night, they will be traveling to Washington to face a Commanders team that has won three of their last five games, which by NFC East standards - is red hot! For Dallas, just winning a football game would be satisfying right now, but a win against the first place Commanders (that just doesn't sound right) would give Cowboys fans a newfound sense of hope that they haven't felt since we all talked about it this time last week. But hey, if nobody wants to pick up the shovel and throw dirt on this Cowboys team, then they might as well climb on out and take a look around.

Should the New York Giants lose to the New York Jets on Sunday, the narrative for the Monday night's big NFC East matchup will be how the winner would take a much needed step towards making a run at the division. And this is a likely scenario. The Jets are currently in a dog fight for a wild card spot in the AFC. Four teams are tied at 6-5 with the Jets being one of those teams. This is a big game for them. They just came off a big win against Miami where Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for four touchdowns and the Jets defense only allowed 12 total rushing yards. This is a very balanced Jets team who is in the top 10 in points for offense and defense. The Giants are going to have their hands full.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who are non-winners of three straight games, are playing the New England Patriots. That's all I'm going to say about that...

Maybe they can,but we'll never know, because the Cowboys aren't getting close to 7 wins this year!

I still believe that no team that can't muster a winning record deserves to be in the playoffs. I've been wanting the league to change the rules so that a team must have at least a 9 and 7 record to be in the playoffs. That means if a team wins the division with 8 and 8 or worse, it stays home and an extra wildcard is created for a team with a winning record that actually deserves to go. I would be perfectly content to see no NFC East representation in the playoffs this year. Obviously, that can't change the rule mid-season, and they'll probably never adopt this rule, but this is how I feel. It's a rule change I would make if I had the power to do so. Winning record or no playoffs. That's what I believe in.

To be 3 and 8 and talking possible playoff scenarios makes me gag. I want the team to be way, way better than it is. I want it to be a powerhouse like some of the teams of the 70s and the 90s.

Making the playoffs having at least one extra game doesn't make the offseason seem as long regardless how you end up. At least when you make the playoffs you accomplished one of your goals for the season. It gives you hope for the following season. Nothing worse than having the playoffs start without your team in the mix. The Cowboys aren't going to win enough games to make the playoffs despite how bad the division is which will make this season even more disappointing. Knowing they could have made the playoffs with only 8-9 wins is going to be a tough pill to swallow. The Cowboys are going to have a difficult time just winning 7 games and only one team (Seattle) made the playoffs with just 7 wins back in 2010.

Haha. What planet do these people live on?

The team hasn't won a single game without Romo this year.......of course they're going to win 4 of the next 5 in his absence.

I think a better questions would be, "can the Cowboys get a 4th win this year?"

It's called the planet Homer it's in the farthest end of the solar system. It's as dead as the Cowboys chances.

Doesn't matter.

Cassel couldn't even win 1 game before when Romo was out.

He's not winning 4 out 5.

Dallas is not getting anywhere near the playoffs. That dream died in week 2, against Philly.

It's all relative to the competition. We've won one game in ten weeks, and we're still in position to compete with a win this week against another bad team. It's not that unlikely.

From there, we just take it week by week.

What makes anyone believe that the Cowboys will get to 7 wins? I don't think they'll be favored in any of the remaining 5 games.

Yep. 4-1 is delusional. Baby steps. Go from 0 wins in 7 games to 1 win in 5 games.

The dream died when they couldn't even win a single game in Romo's absence. I wasn't asking for much. Go 3-4. Heck, even 2-5. But to go 0-7 and expect Romo to be Superman. Cmon.

According to the ESPN playoff machine, the Cowboys can still win the NFC east with just a 7-9 record, but it's extremely unlikely to playout that way.

Being that Jerry Jones is our owner I disagree. There is so much wrong with this team and season that goes beyond Romo being out. Going to the playoffs at 7-9 and getting killed is a "we fight" and "are on the right track" situation for Jones to trot out and it gets us no closer to fixing our issues.
