Can TO be our Tiki Barber?

Remember after Barber retired after a season where he was probably the biggest distraction in the league for a Giants team that crashed and burned.

They were pegged to finish last in the East by most pundits yet won the Super Bowl. Jacobs was alrgely unproven as an everydown back, ditto for Ward and Bradshaw.

I'm on the fence regarding keeping TO, but maybe just maybe cutting TO may not be the end of the world some are proclaiming here.

No one is proclaiming that cutting TO is the end of the world.

Most of us just say it's a stupid thing to cut a productive player over media-driven BS.

There have been some people that have equated cutting TO to us having a 5-11 type season.

That would be the end of the world, at least on this forum.

Yes, some people are saying it.

They're crazy...

But I wouldn't take a 9 million cap hit for the media. Just me...

The thing with Tiki retiring, is Jacobs was there to step in, I see a huge drop off from TO as our #1, to Roy 11 as the #1.

Maybe I'm wrong. Cut him or keep him, I don't care. Just have a plan if they do axe him.

No not as long as Wade is here

does anyone honestly think Wade is going turn the corner with him gone? he's been a failure everywhere he's been a HC yet somehow TO is to blame :laugh2:

I think that is a valid point. Babe said a Philly official told him they're just getting over the mess TO created in their lockerroom. If TO is released, his lockerroom minions are probably going to act out some type of "soft mutiny" moping and pointing fingers at Romo because we have a soft head coach and front office that will let them get away with it. When a 7th round draft pick and mediocre 3rd WR like Crayton can call for a "special meeting" with the offensive coordinator about how he's being utilized, it tells me there's no limit on the pettiness and sense of entitlement our players have. The release of TO needs to coincide with a hardnosed coaching style to ensure no moping or backbiting surfaces.

As far as the drop off from Tiki to Jacobs, it was dramatic as far as individual stats go. Tiki had a 2100 total yards his final season. Jacobs barely cracked 1200 replacing him. That's a significant 900 yard loss. But the overall Giants offense got better because they were better able to utilize their entire offensive weaponry without being a 1 man "Tiki Barber Show".

The Giants still run the ball, unlike us. And they shortened their passing game for Manning to negate turnovers. Our OC does neither. It isn't about TO...

See, that's what people don't understand. IT IS about TO. There is no power running game like the Giants as long as TO is here. Your going to hear him complain about the playcalling and how he isnt getting the ball. Ya he doesn't say anything when we win, but what if we start losing? He's just going to sit back? Please. Three solid RB's,Romo, Witten, Roy,Miles,Bennett and Crayton. That's more than enough to move the ball. Owens restricts those people from getting touches.

There is none without him too, our o line isn't exactly good run blockers.
The Giants running game didn't look to great without Plax constantly pulling a safety out of the box either. Their blocking is also way better then ours cutting TO so we can run the ball isn't going to work it's only going to make running the ball even harder

We had the 7th best team rushing YPC in the NFL in 2007 when Sparano was here and we actually committed to the run game, instead of running the shotgun all the time and playing glorified Arena Football to appease WR's who publicly complain they didn't get enough looks after games which they're targeted 17 times.

Why people keep making references to Sparano at this point is a mystery to me. Either this team learns to run block with authority, or there's going to be all kinds of threads here next season, and not just about TO.

I find it comical that people actually think cutting our best receiver is going to make our running game better. We forced teams to play the pass that's why there's been running room take away the threat of our passing game and see how far we get running with this team.
If receivers crying about the football is enough to make our coaches change the offense then we seriously need new coaches not receivers

Utter nonsense.

If the team's winning, you won't hear a peep out of Owens...except maybe a little bragging.

And this isn't a power running offense. In 2007, we had an upsetting pattern of not running well until the end of the game, when we were comfortably ahead, anyway. In 2008, our running game was really inconsistent. When you have Owens, Roy Williams, and Jason Witten, 3 Pro Bowl players, you're supposed to throw the ball. Not so much so that you become unbalanced on offense, but you play to your offense's strengths, and that's what this unit's is with a healthy Romo and those 3 guys (among others) playing at the skill positions.

People look at a team like the New York Giants (who won ONCE) and think all of a sudden that the solution is to run the ball and play defense. Well, last I checked, we don't have a great defense and we have yet to really show that we're a great running team...so why not try to win the way other teams have...WITH a passing game?

I believe his blowup with the Eagles came immediately following an NFC Championship.

You mean a running game worked better later in the game when the defense is worn down, rather than the first of the game when the defense is fresh?

These are fascinating football insights you're throwing around.

I find it comical that people still follow the Daniel Snyder model of team building that the team with the biggest names on the back of the jerseys must automatically be the best teams.

On paper, the Giants weren't supposed to be a better team without Tiki and Shockey. They were.
