Can we cut Kyle Orton asap?

What are the cap implications of cutting this slob right now? I don't want this guy on this team.

Why don't we wait and see exactly what's up before we call him a "slob." Obviously, he's very seriously considered retirement and might still go that way. It can be a hard decision for players to walk away from the game (and the green), so give him a break and allow him to make up his mind.

If he's not committed, Dallas doesn't need him. If he is, then he's fine as the No. 1 backup for this season unless two other QBs prove that they need to be kept on the roster.

Just cut this guy already Jerry. Don't know what's going on with him or if he's dealing with something personal, but either way he's getting paid way too much to act this way.

:p He's taking up a roster spot, I guess we will know by OTA's, if he doesn't show up then well you know what too do.

Doesn't he have to pay back millions of a signing bonus he got if he retires? Sounds like the guy wants to retire, but doesn't want to pay back the $$$. If that is the case I don't want him on the team.

What does that have to do with responding to a text from your position coach? This guy is playing games.

Everyone must remain patient (or don't). Orton is not in violation of the rules yet:

http://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdf

Article 22, Minicamps, Section 2. Mandatory Veteran Minicamp: ...The minicamp must be conducted during week three or week four of Phase Three of the Club’s offseason workout program. The Phase Three rules set forth in Article 21, Section 2(b)(iii) of this Agreement shall apply to all minicamp activities.

Article 21, Offseason Workouts, Section 2(b)(iii): Phase Three shall consist of the next four weeks of the
Club’s offseason workout program...

Phase Three will see the Cowboys undergo their 10 days of offseason team activities, or OTAs, over three weeks, starting May 27 and lasting until June 12. Mandatory veteran minicamp has a tentative start of June 17, lasting until June 19.

*****

Justifiable impatience can begin May 27 (edit) June 17.

Waters had his little delay tactics. Vets get where training camp is too much.
Is that the case here.

Kyle Orton doesn't really care about leading a franchise to a Super Bowl, and that's why he came to Dallas to play behind Romo. Because when he left the Broncos, he was(is??) still good enough to be a starter for a couple teams in the NFL. He's just in it for the money and parties .... Which doesn't seem like a bad gig at all.

Yeah he owes them 3.5 Million if he retires, hope he kept some of his restructure money last year. Jerry has all the leverage in this case, I wouldnt release him I'd force him to retire or pay me back money for every practice missed.

I agree. He may not be violating any rules and he doesn't owe you or me an explanation, but it's clear he is not even giving the team any clear reasons for not being there. They are all disappointed and publicly saying so. Even the great Roger Staubach who is very delicate about criticizing players called him out.

I think they want him to retire or not report so that they can get the bonus money back. If they cut him, its dead money.

Not hard to send a text back to Wade if something going on. I want players who want to be here.

Yeah. If your heart is not in it then it's better to just stop playing.

The fact that he is even pondering this is enough in my book to let him go.

I see Orton as a roster commodity - as long as he doesn't quit, he can be valuable as a quality backup, or if another team loses their QB early, he may want the opportunity to start and a trade can bring a draft pick or developmental player in return.

We probably should find out what is going on in Kyle's life before jumping to any conclusions.
Reasonable. Up to now, Orton's behavior seems atypical. Maybe he's dealing with a family matter. Perhaps he's having some sort of breakdown. Maybe he's soaking up the sun in Cabo.

Who knows? Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone could find out? Just imagine. A professional or group of professionals taught and trained to search for hidden answers. Men and women who are paid to dig for facts, make phone calls, knock on neighbors' doors, and put the pieces of the puzzle together. Sounds like a problem for the police, but Orton has not done something criminal. I wonder. Who fits the bill? What sort of people can gather facts together and publish them for public consumption?

Oh! Publish! I got it! The media! The media could actually work in providing news about Orton. Eureka!

Or they can just tweet the same-old same-old. Whatever's easiest, I guess.
