Ok. I know I am not the only one that said What the?? When they went for the long FG early. Yes. I know it's early but at that very moment you had a very tightly contested game that most would classify as a nice chess match. Why get greedy and give up the field position? A real HC would have simply lined up to pin them deep. Of course, if the FG goes through, he looks great but that is an awfully huge risk to take in that situation. As much as I like to think limiting Garrett to holistic HC duties may have actually been beneficial, he is proving that even in that role his "green" side still shows.

I wouldn't have opted to kick it there, but he had the distance for it.

I didn't like the call.

I would've probably gone for it if I was feeling like taking a risk.

I'm sure the jg apologist don't won't to discuss it. I'm sure they have a great reason why he did it

I think if the coaches think your very good kicker can make a 56 yard kick, then you give your guy a chance to go out there and make a play. Having said that... sometimes there is a certain feel to a game, and to me it felt wrong to try what would be a career long kick in that spot. And I'm not just saying that with hindsight. Still, I'm not mad that he let the kicker go out and try to make a play that would give a spark. Maybe he had a foreshadowing about the horrible performance that would be turned in by the punter...

I would have gone for it. I thought it was too far for Bailey. Garrett doesn’t have the balls to go for it on 4th down in that type of situation.

At 53 yards I would understand at 56? Yeah I know some will say 3 yards but at 53 Bailey has made them at 56? No he hasn't so I don't like my chances there. If you want to also talk about coaching how about the lack of urgency and Tempo of the offense? My god it's so slow.

Exactly. It just felt totally wrong given the specific situation we were in early in the game battling for field position.

There is no right answer to this. It was a makeable fg. It was early in the game and if you have confidence in your d, no reason not to try it. The kick had the distance, so hard to say it was a stupid call. Now, I personally would have punted it but still hard to argue with it if your kicker has the leg, which he clearly did.

did anyone see Bailey warm up? If he's been booting them from 60yds pregame then you make the call with some confidence in your player.

If not, then it's overly aggressive and, as it turned out, a bad idea.

I'm guessing he made a couple before the game that made Garrett (or more likely Rich B?) confident he could do it.

Yeah that was a ridiculous sequence. In that situation, you tell your OC that you're thinking about going for it on fourth down and ask him dial up a high percentage play to either pick up the first or give yourself a manageable fourth down call.

If it doesn't work, you punt.

You definitely don't try a 56 yarder.

I dont think there is much to discuss. The field goal was flat out a bad decission.

Momentum was staring to shift to us. You dont win much with 3 more points but you lose alot by missing it.

Just another good example Garrett lacks the feel for game situations.

I didn't think it was outrageous. We must have seen Bailey making them from that distance in warm-ups, or we wouldn't have tried it. I liked that we were aggressive trying to get points from the drive on the road.

Personally, I'd have been more tempted to try to convert. I had punting from that spot on the field, though, myself.

I need more info, was Bailey hitting 50yd+ field goals on that end of the field in pregame? If he was hitting them then the player just needs to execute better in the real game when his coach calls his number, if Bailey wasn't hitting those in pregame consistently then a punt would be better just my opinion.
