Can we really go into the season with two change of pace backs as our top two runningbacks

I think you underestimate tonys ability. He was a league leader in YAC yards. Unless youre referring to his back ups. I think the cowboys actually relied on zeke by the goal line by design but Im pretty sure pollard had more YAC. Zeke elliott was a beast in short yardage he was king of if you need 2 yard zeke will get it it.If you need 5 hell get 2.
That was in the open field. Gotta watch the games, dude, don't just rely on stats. Tony got caught a lot.

Let's be clear. I love Pollard. Really good player, glad to have him.

Ya, the only coastal part of this offense will be MM including several TE and FB options available now.
Peeps that are worried about RB depth are the same that worry about LB depth...lol
Depth? Weird, this convo wasn't about depth.

I can hear it now if the running game digresses: "This was a strong running back class, yet we settled in the late rounds for a deuce and a quarter." ;)

We need a grinder to get the tough yards and goalline carries. I love Duece and Pollard but they are smaller backs. Can we give Luepke some more opportunities to see what we have.
They aren't smart enough....never gave the ASU FB a fair shot a few years ago either....NEVER got meaningful carries....even in pre-season.

I sort of agree....Pollard has zero issues running between the tackles, but last year when he got goal line opportunities over Zeke it wasn't pretty. He got stuffed often.
Running between the tackles in the base offense and running between the tackles on short-yardage jumbo packages are two very different things.

Maybe Pollard is good at short yardage, but he hasn't been doing it here.

This is an excellent observation. Dallas doesn't have the three yard, move the chains back. And behind this line, Larry Csonka would struggle.
In games 2-12 Cowboys averaged 4.8 yards a rush. That's outstanding. Then Steele got hurt.

We have a stout o-line, but can't afford injuries.

Fullbacks are largely pointless for most teams. There are maybe 5 teams that do much of anything with them.

The fact that you can't remember the name of the "ASU FB", and that he likely didn't stick in the NFL...says it all.

Dowdle is 6' 215 lbs. Is that small? Maybe he runs small? I do get it. Pollard, Davis and Jones are all on the smaller side, although I think Jones can run big.

They have Luepke. He is 238 lbs. He looks like he can do more than run like a battering ram. The Cowboys have some tough decisions getting down to 53. I feel they will be cutting a few players who will get picked up by other teams, especially at LB, CB and RB.
Luepke is the guy I want to see more of. I want to see what that kid can do.

I think we have a nice stable of RB's as is. Let's get 3-4 games into the regular season and go from there. O-line is a little concerning and must maintain health and continuity.

Ok not worth debating but it wasn’t all in the open field I watched the games he was darn effective between the tackles

Now can his body hold up if used the way zeke was is another discussion all together . The solution is not to use him in the same manner

I’m more concerned about the OL than I am the RB room

Size? No. Quickness to the hole and ability to run through tackles.

You were definitely lost if you were trying to consider a thought other than your own!!!!!!!!

And here's how lost you are: In general, gazelles at RB do not make good short yardage backs, as they aren't built for it. You are definitely lost on this subject.

BTW, why do we gotta start the stupid little childish insults war? I thought we were having a discussion, dude.
Who said gazells? You specifically said big backs. You also said there are no holes in short yardage. As if the oline plays no part. it plays the biggest part.

I'm completely sold on Deuce. At this point he's my RB2 until someone can take that away from him. He didn't play at a junior college. He wasn't playing against other guys his size. At no point in his football career did he look like the biggest guy on the field. But there were many times he was the best player on the field.

I've gone back and watched game after game of Deuce. Literally the only knock is his size. Mature. Infinite work ethic. High production. Elusive.

My prediction is that Deuce is a man among boys out there on the field. He's a problem. I think he'll have a short career, due to his size and the position he plays. But I think he'll shine really bright for a few years.

I hope that youre right but Id like to se a bit more. He literally ate up those that will be coming off the bench or looking for work. That said he put it on alabama and some of those folks will be starting on sundays

Sadly, we will. We've already seen this story from the FO.

Don't be surprised if we get our run game completely shut down in the playoffs and Jerry and Stephen 'finally' realize that we actually need to invest a higher resource if we're going to be a run heavy team.

Pretty much the same thing with the Amari Cooper situation. Many of us knew it was a bad idea to give away your #1 receiver for nothing. Now this year, they go out and get Brandon Cooks to 'make up' for it. The reactionary nature of the FO is why we never get past the second round. By the time they realize there is a problem in one area and are reacting to 'fix that', a problem rears in another area which is getting ignored and reacted to late. There is never a year where we are just a fully complete team.

How is he supposed to pick up those A Gap blitzes?

He'll get trucked.

to be fair, most of them are scrubs.

almost all of them are terrible at pass blocking.

Even Pollard stinks at pass blocking.

A lot of people on here think you dont need an elite back to win football games.

Gee I wonder how many other orgainizations have a fanbase that is so stuck on pass blocking versus play making. I guarantee you if Zeke made more plays hed stilll be here. I dont care how good of a pass blocker he was. pollard while not zeke is a good enough pass blocker. He isnt zeke but hes not horrible. He horrible compared to Zeke. Sometimes the defense wins

I got a novel idea how about the OL be better at picking up stunts so the back dont have to pick someone up. We dont need elite we need effective and thats exactly what we have providing the OL do their job.
