Can we talk about Chris Collinsworth?

Hey, his comment at 10:45 in the first quarter was basically writing the obituary for the Cowboys, very prematurely. Specifically, he said that the Cowboys tried all this offseason work to stop the run, and failed.... Wow, that was especially irritating. However, his punishment was to sing the praises of the Cowboys for the next 55 minutes of game time. Hilarious!!!
he quickly changed his tune after the blocked fg and score. Juanyeh Thomas was everywhere last night btw. Kids a stud.

I like Collinsworth generally, I think he is quite insightful about how the game is played. I noticed early on last night; however, that he seemed to be searching for something to say. Tirico fed him subjects a couple of times and he didn't follow the lead, and seemed to meander instead. I think because the game got out of hand early that they didn't get to use the NY storylines that they prepared for quite as much. Hard to sing the praises, or tell stories about, a team that is getting destroyed on the field. So I will give him a pass on this one. Overall the broadcast energy seemed a little low early on and then picked up a bit as it went on.

And I agree with everyone here that being in the public eye and on TV can be an unforgiving job in the era of social media where everyone has an opinion.

I thought he was pretty complimentary about the Cowboys, actually. He raved about the D and their depth.

And, although I'm not a fan, that catch by OBJ was one of the best I've ever seen. He caught the back half of the ball with only 3 fingers

I don’t know if he’s one of the best but I don’t mind him. I’d much rather hear him than Joe Buck any day of the week. I’m stating to notice though no one likes anyone lol. People talk about how bad Romo is, Aikman, Buck, Collinsworth…..not sure what people really want.
Even Cosell and Madden annoyed some people.

Chris is sort of a non-entity. Nothing special, just OK.
I do wish a lot of the new NFL fans could have experienced true excellence in the booth, like Summerall. Pat was rare, impartial, and you enjoyed the games -- when game announcers didn't distract viewers one bit. Im afraid his ilk are long gone.

The other thing at play here.......... that's a tough game to call being so one sided. The announcers almost have to go out of their way to say nice things about the team getting slaughtered, which can make it seem forced...............
Good point. There's probably a plaque on the wall that reads, "Do NOT be a Theismann!" :muttley:

My favorite line of the night was "Parsons has a chance to be special in this league"

Yep.

And honestly, I really have to question people who think he was too pro-Giants last night and didn't give enough respect to Dallas. He almost orgasmed on air multiple times talking about the defense, Quinn, Parsons, etc.

I swear some here just want the announcers to talk all Cowboys and never say anything positive about the other team, LOL.
No. I dont want that. I want an evenly called game. I dont want to hear about a catch that happened 8 years ago in a loss none the less.

LOL, Collinsworth was singing Danny Dimes' praises, down 40-0.

I think Collinsworth does a pretty good job overall. I liked the Michaels/Collinsworth duo better than with Tirico, but Al Michaels is one of the best to ever do it.

Cowboy fans seem to hate every announcer out there and always say they hate Dallas. Even Aikman gets accused of bashing the Cowboys, but for the most part I've never really felt that way.

Last night was one of the toughest situations announcers could be in. A blowout is never fun to call, and you often have to remember that you have two fan bases as well as the national audience to cater to. You still have to talk about the team on the losing end, which is difficult to do, but you need to keep as many of those fans engaged for ratings purposes, plus you have to remember that as an announcer you don't want to full on bash the losing team as you'll be calling another game of theirs at some point and you want the pregame interviews and player/coaching insight that comes from those. Playing announcer, especially for a prime time game is a lot more of a political game than many believe it to be.

What a great win last night. I loved every second of it. With that being said. Can we discuss how Collinsworth gets away with blatantly disrespecting the Cowboys every time he comments on their games?

If I have to hear about the OBJ catch one more time I may lose my mind. It was years ago and they lost that game. With that said all he kept saying pre game and during the game is how good the Giants were. At one point he said the Giants added a bunch of new weapons for Daniel Jones and that they would be the fastest team on the field. Maybe I am overreacting but its been years of this and I am honestly at the point where I may watch the games on mute when he is in the booth.

Anyways. Rant over. Go Cowboys!
It's hard to determine where the network producers affect the content during game casts, but NBC definitely has been dumping that reel on us since it happened. I think Collinsworth is just following the script there.

You watched a different game than I did. Collinsworth could not have poured more praise on our Defense and Micah. And about the OBJ catch, of course it's going to be talked about everytime we play them in that stadium. When he refers to it being the greatest catch of all time, most people know that he means from a difficulty level. I hate the Giants and I'm not a fan of OBJ, but I agree that it's the greatest catch of all time.

Cris Collingsworth was fine. They more or less go off a script and unfortunately, the Giants didn't do their part in giving the announcers much to talk about.

my 12 yr old son doesn’t watch football or have any investment and he was like “this announcer sure loves the giants”
Lots of 12 year olds on CZ apparently because they thought the same thing
