Can we talk about the Rams

Yes, Seattle’s O line is a hot mess. I know these are just predictions and we really won’t know until the end of the season but most rankings are based on the current players. I have yet to see Seattle’s O line ranked above 20 and that is being generous, most rankings have them anywhere from 25-32.

Atlanta has a “damn good” O line? Do you consider 20th or worse “damn good”? Could of fooled me and several other analysts. Rams aren’t much better, if at all. These are literally the first 4 I clicked on.

So yeah, I’ll still take our O line any day of the week (even with Looney and/or Erving) over Atlanta, the Rams, Seattle and the Browns.

Again, it’s all speculation but I think CeeD will be awesome or at least above average. Knowing what you know now, can you think of any team with a better O line AND a WR trio and RB? Multiple analysts think we have the best in the league. Last year we had the best offense with Garrett. We’ve upgraded with CeeDee and possibly Jarwin. Granted, the Collins injury hurts a bit but it won’t be or shouldn’t be the difference between a W and a L, nor should Looney (we still had a winning season with him at center in 2018 with less than what we have now).

Our D line is as solid as it’s been in a long time and extremely deep on the edges. Hopefully LVE returns to 2016 form when he and Jaylon were one of the best LB’er combo. Even when Jaylon was playing subpar they were above average.

Our secondary is our biggest and only weakness IMO. I’m one of the last guys to get optimistic or buy the hype and still mock those that do but as of now, on paper, I think we are one of the best teams in the league. In case you haven’t noticed, so does Vegas, I believe we’re the 6th most favored team to win the SB. FWIW, Seattle is right behind us which I didn’t even know but as I stated above they are the only team I see beating us out of the first 4 IF we lose a game. Then the Browns (surprising to me) are 10 behind the Cowboys, the Rams a few behind them and Atlanta a few behind the Rams.

It’s all a guess at this point but there is my reasoning for my stone cold lock “guess” for the first 4 games. BTW, I was also mocked last year for not being optimistic after our “killer” first 3 games against 3 of the worst teams and defenses in the league.
Only started on the PFF link so far. Man their writers are so polite they made Washington's Oline sound like it had a slight potential to improve. They don't seem to hold any punches on grading, though.

I honestly need to read moat of them, I just scanned through to see where teams were ranked but haven’t read much yet. I know these are all subject to change based on injuries and actual play but for the most part I think most of these rankings get in the ballpark for most teams.

I was intrigued up until I got to the part about the East. Being a toss up. No way and it's not even close.

It totally threw me off.

Definitely not trying to hijack the thread..just stating that you completely lost me there. It threw me all out of wack.

Which team in the east do you see that stands out among the four? They all seem like they have issues to me.

Is this supposed to be like one of those anti jinx threads where we sarcastically talk about how bad the Cowboys are to help our chances or is the OP just that big of a troll?

I'll do my part in case it isn't the latter....

Cowboys are the worst team in the league. They have no talent and they should tank for that Clemson QB.

Yea I am a troll. Dallas will win next week 56-0

one week out and the Rams game to me is a must win. If they lose this game they have potential to pull an 0 for september. The rams are young and in transition. They have two good wr and a good tight end. They have an offensive line that is middle of the road. Their defense looks to be like ours in the middle of big changes. Very weak at linebacker, good on the defensive line and ok in the secondary.

They are running a new defensive scheme. Like Dallas getting ready to play them will be a challenge. I mistakenly thought they had hired Joe Barry as DC having not paid much attention. They actually hired Brandon Staley as DC and they are staying in the 3-4 and running Vic Fangio's scheme. They have a good group up front when they go nickel defense. They have donald, brockers, ekubam and Floyd. That is pretty good and will challenge this offensive line.

This game has serious potential to be a sloppy game that comes down to whoever has the ball last. That didn't go well for Dallas at all last year. The OC and QB here came up short everytime they needed them to go win the game. Hopefully something has changed there this year.

I imagine a lot of penalties, poor tackling and lots of communication issues for all teams in the first week or two of the league. With both Dallas and LA having new defensive schemes and a number of new players this just feels like a game that will be a mess.

if Ramsey takes gallup out of the game and they double cooper this could be a long day for the offense. Will Cooper even play? David Helman mentioned yesterday that he thinks xavier woods could also end up on IR after this weekend because he is injured also.

From April to August Dallas has been promoted as this uber talented team with a new coaching staff that was going to make said talent that much better. I heard that Bobby Belt character on the fan yesterday say the cowboys are one of the three most talented rosters in the league....Give me a break.....

BS season is over and they have to play a game in 7 days and I am not sure they are as talented as they have said they are. I can really see a scenario where the east is just a toss up when we get to December. All four teams are similar and have injuries and weaknesses.

anyway the Rams look to be in transition and have low expectations with the quality of San Francisco and Seattle in front of them...plus wherever Arizona shakes out in the end. Dallas has talked about a super bowl since April because they drafted a wr, now the games are ready to begin. Dallas Has to win this game. I feel like Dallas defense is going to be in for a long day versus seattle, atlanta and cleveland so this is a must win game.

Game one is a must win?

Some of you will be begging to bring Garrett back if we lose.
There is a better chance Staubach takes a snap as Cowboys QB in scheduled NFL game this season than anybody begging for a Garrett return. After watching that floater in the bowl for a decade, it finally got flushed.

Not quite a team in particular, but speaking theoretically(because of the massive amounts of unknowns that we could break down for days) I would still imagine that there is a "pecking order" of sorts.

Speaking from an outsider looking in, unbiased observations, Dallas and Philly are top tier, Washington(based off of defensive potential alone) and then the Giants.

If that's what you meant, I apologize. I took it as a four way brawl for supremacy, which I respectfully disagree. I'll roll with your initial opinion on the Rams though, on paper, I think it could be a tough game for either team.

You said let’s talk about the Rams then went on to talk about everything but the Rams.

- Their offensive line is a train wreck, just like it was last year
- They lost their two best offensive weapons in Brandin Cooks and Todd Gurley
- They lost one of the league’s best kickers
- They have no home crowd

On the other hand, the Cowboys have:

- A new head coach who has won a Super Bowl
- A ferocious defensive line and front 7
- An even more explosive offensive than last year
- An upgraded special teams and a more aggressive defense

On any given Sunday, anything can happen. But Dallas should open the season 5-0 or 4-1

Thanks for Sharing,..

- I agree to expect league wide problems for the entire NFL to be sloppy in penalties, blown assignments, special teams, bad or delayed
communications on sidelines/coaches boxes, turnovers on offenses... and worst soft tissue injuries.
i think it's gonna take a challenge on our depth.

- why would rams put their premiere shutdown CB Jalen Ramsey on Gallup.. instead of Cooper ?

- If I'm the Rams,(as with all foes will do) i'm making the Cowboys as one dimensional as possible, take away zeke and force Dak to beat me
as Rams have Ramsey, take cooper out of the game earlier so it gets in his head and he pouts.

- one key with us is if we solved the notorious slow stops,.. Rams McVay's offense is predicated on play action with offense establishing the run game.
They had zero run game and Goff was forced to solo beat us in a blowout loss to the Cowboys in '19.

- I'm most interested in taking away Rams run game and forcing Goff to throw vs our pass rush to beat us.
Frankly we don't have any idea about our new run defense. And we're down to 2 LBs with Lee out, reserve Joe thomas is not an idea
strongside run stopper. ....and this is also where we'll found out if we can finally stop screen passes which Rams will certainly imploy.
I expect every team will imploy the same as well.

- at his best, Sean McVey offense likes play action, pre-snap motion and moving formations and misdirection plays - ironically it sounds like
Kellen moore mimic rams offense uses here with Cowboys.

-the last 2 outings Aaron Donald hasnt really been a factor against us. even with Looney in Rams '18 playoffs, and our OGs Williams and ex- Cowboys
Sua Filo were able to contain him. Needless to say we will need to do so again.

The Cowboys won their game against the Rams in 2019.

Jaylen Ramsey was already on the team in 2019.

They didn't have a 1st round pick this year due to the Ramsey trade.

WR Brandin Cooks is gone.

RB Todd Gurley is gone.

Their interior OL from the 2018 season playoff game are gone.
Cam Akers actually has the knees of a functioning 20 something running back and not a grandpa on his way to bingo night after the early bird special at the buffet.

Kupp and Woods are good at wr. And Higbee and Everett are more than enough at tight end.

It's a new season and anything can happen especially with the crazy offseason and lead up to this year we have had.

It's possible that we lose this game. We have our own issues on the offensive line and they still do have Aaron Donald.

I think this is going to be a toss up game that we have struggled in post Jimmy especially in recent years in the current century.

I see us winning like 27-24.

yea it's an absurd opinion I admit. I just feel like the of the first four games this is the one they have to win. The other three will be tough. I think they are outclassed vs seattle, Atlanta's offense will do what it wants and cleveland has the weapons to put a bunch of points on the board.

JMO. I'm probably 100% wrong and they will start 4-0. That second block of games, Giants, Cardinals, Washington and the eagles seems like an easier stretch on paper. Getting 3 wins out of that group of four does not seem like to much of a stretch. The catch is they have dominated washington and new york and that will end at some point. Arizona is an odd team to me. I am not sure what to make of them. Kind of like Cleveland I guess.

anyway, I just feel like if they lose this Rams game it could domino into a really tough start.

instead of dwelling on why we need to worry and fear Seattle and Atlanta offenses, i ask why Pete Carroll and Dan Quinn need to fear our own offenses
and what we will do to their defenses.

vs Seattle- there's Lamb and Jarwin they need to worry about us now, now that's a difference from Cobb and Witten.

Also Dak is a different more pass efficient QB than the last two times they met him.. there's no frank clarke or Clowney among their DL, but they
still have superb LB unit with Wagner and KJ Wright leading the charge. they have Jamal Adams who i expect they'll imploy as a blitzing underneath factor but
i expect us to get him in deep coverage as much as possible

and of course there's Russell Wilson - and his improvising ways will put a grind on our defense- especially on CBs vs Lockett, Metcalf, despite hawk's average OL. Chris Carson shouldn't really scare us.

ATL - it's a 36 yr old Matt Ryan, is he on the decline ? i don't think they have been same since Kyle Shanahan departed, but they are at their best when they have the run game - but that was such old news with ex-Kyle Shanahan. Julio Jones is indeed still dangerous but if you rattled the source then Julio cannot hurt you. Who do they have as RBs that you would fear ?

First game for this new defense having to match up with McVay is a problem. That plus not having Collins at RT will be a huge problem.

Rams take the opener 31-24

Dallas begins the season 1-0. The reduced training camp works for MM in a penalty mess first game.
