That's an auto fumble. Never reach the ball out in a sneak situation, maybe a goal line situation since crossing it ends the play. You reach the ball out on a sneak like that and you have more hands than you can handle swatting at the football.
do it in the endzone and it's a touchback, what's the difference???

I would have had Dak run a naked bootleg or something else. That was pathetic.
I know it's all in hindsight, but that would have been a much better plan.

The Cowboys have 300+ LB guys on the roster. Why weren't they lined up in the backfield?

Because when the ball crosses the plane of the goal line the play is dead. You don't get that benefit in the rest of the field. Sneaks you're typically on top of other players so you're never really down by contact, its just when you stop forward momentum, so reaching the ball out is an enormous risk unless you have the goal line or open grass in front of you to save you from a late punch at the ball.

They just need to be trained to excell in the art of a scrum in rugby.

This form of tush push, is dangerous to player's legs as powerful force is aimed at the opposing players legs. It truly is a dangerous football technique...presently legal or not.
