Can we talk about the Tush Push?

I don't understand the 'tush push' piece of this. I just don't believe the guys doing the pushing from the back add much to the play at all. I'd rather see two RBs out wide or something to force two guys out of the chaos in the middle. At least do an occasional pitch to one of the backs or something to keep the defense honest.

This play is completely about the OL and QB though. Anyone who has played center knows it's tough to get a good snap off and still explode forward getting under the pad level of defenders who are in 4 point stances. Kelce/Hurts have perfected this make no mistake about it.

If you're going to run the tush push you need to put a couple of guards or a couple of nose tackles behind Dak, what about Mazi Smith he's supposed to be so incredibly strong. Give me guys that play in the trenches were pushing and shoving is part of their job description.

Mazi and Tyler are about as strong as anyone they are gonna face. Dak is a tank too.

I'd rather see Luepke bulldozing.

If they are going to run that play, then they need to put Tyler Smith at center for that snap.

Just hold the ball against Tyler Smith's backside and it's guaranteed to get a yard. After that attempt vs the Chargers, he was further forward than anybody else in the pile. He head was past the feet of all the defenders...

If the formation is used...additional use of defensive tackles would be good additions to add into the mix.

Maybe we can find a use for Mazi Smith after all. That will teach the big boy to get low.

Lol why? Because we can't execute it?
Because this is supposed to be the NFL.
Not Rugby. I said that in the off-season when the league
decided not to vote on it being removed.
I guarantee they get rid of it next year.

It's not successful (for the Eagles) because of the size or strength of the Center.
Jason Kelce is one of the smallest centers in the league.
It works due to leverage. Look how low Kelce gets, in fact the entire offensive line gets so low, they get under the defense and use their legs to create push. Like a 6 man squat.
It also helps that Hurts can squat 600 pounds.
Our attempt in the Chargers game was embarrassing.
It looked like we practiced it 2 or 3 times and felt we had it.
I suppose the Eagles practice it often and have perfected it.
If we are going to do it (and we should), we need to practice it and perfect it.

If you watch Philly do it, their lineman get really low. Watching Dallas, and a few others, the OL is lining up tall as if it's just a normal play.
It's no surprise it's not working the same if you're not doing it the same.

Basic stuff.

They would be better served to spread everything out and just qb sneak it. They don't get low enough up front, they will never win consistently.

Teams are all getting much better at defending it too.

I wouldn’t want Dowdle to be my push guy. The play is known so there is no trickery generally. Need a big guy pushing I think
