Can We Talk About TJ Bass?

I just watched every offensive snap like 5x to watch each OL, and TJ Bass and Tyron were neck and neck for best lineman and the others weren’t even close.

TJ Bass is an NFL starter. Not a future starter. A starter. He gave up one bad play on a stunt where the DL CLEARLY grabbed him and held him from recovering.

He is quick, plays with sneaky leverage, and does an incredible job getting to the second level and sealing guys off. He’s also very disciplined. The only negative I see is that he can sometimes have trouble with quick (think Osa) DLs that try to flash around him, but he will get better with that as time goes.

I encourage everyone to watch the 1st qtr of the Commanders game and just watch how much better he is than Biadasz and Hoffman. He barely moves back on pass plays and executed on run plays beautifully.

Cannot wait to see this guy with an offseason in the weight room.

Lot of potential there and he is showing it right away unlike our first rd pick
We lucked out truly in our acquisition of OL this offseason
WE just might have no need to draft more than one more high up
Basically we need to think on Steele; though we are kind of locked in due to Jerry stupidity there.
If he makes it all the way back he is good enough to win with but at the same time we can do better
Actually center is the area of real concern in my book: Biadasz is just not good enough; and he regressed this year. I had hopes he would take another solid step further and we could resign him with some confidence but I have pretty much given up on him

Nate Newton has liked this guy since TC (he also likes Asim Richards). I'm hoping the team has a plan for upgrading the center and moving Bass over might be an option,,, it still stings when I watch Buffalo run over people with Connor McGovern at center after we kicked him to the curb. Unbelievable.

Ideally Biadasz would get functionally stronger or better with technique/leveraging but it doesn't look like that's happening.

Myself included kept wondering why we failed to bring in any vets to fill the OL line knowing injuries would happen, and it looks like we now know the reason why..yes it's a small sample size but the 2 guys did not look like backups yesterday, and we can argue we looked better in the run game at least

id have to go back and elook but I thought he just priced himself out of dallas. The cowboys not unlike Connor williams liked Mcgovern they just had to let him go due to $$. Dont think they necessarily kicked him to the curb but i could be wrong

Bass and Asim Richards are the steals of the draft. Richards in 5th round and Bass a UDFA.

You guys remember he was graded really high on PFF or something for his zone blocking

I guess it’s not impossible…but has he ever even played the position in a game? Don’t see any snaps for him there in college. I see the coaching staff has worked him at C some in practice, but thats a risky position to bank on someone with 0 experience.

Still mind boggling to me they seem hell bent on keeping 1st round pick Tyler Smith at LG despite showing he can play LT more than adequately as a rookie. Hopefully they change their mind if Tyron isn’t on the team next year.

How are you grading Mazie Smith without even knowing what the coaches want him to do on a play?
McCarthy said that Mazie Smith is doing a lot of the dirty work that goes unnoticed.

It’s the exact same as Zack Martin. We know he CAN play RT but why mess that up when he is a probowl RG. Sure Tyler CAN play LT but he’s a probowl level LG so don’t touch it

I was worried when he went into the lineup last week. But then there was practically no discernible dropoff.

I noticed the same thing as you keying in on him yesterday. Most plays, he stood his man up and gave up very little space.

You couldn’t ask for more from the guy. He’s been great so far.
