They still get paid, and can make a real good living off of returning kicks. I think there are some, I mean they are people like anyone else. Regular folks play golf on the weekend, in their foursome, really hard. Work related softball leagues exist cause people like to compete.
Semi-pro football leagues where if a player gets hurt, they are responsible for paying for their care. This type of football, you better love the game, cause there is not much else there, I have a friend that does this, and they get paid almost nothing. Heck, I am in one of the most competitive fantasy bball leagues there is, and we spend days researching it for no money at all.
These athletes are people too, and there are a few that would do it regardless. I just named the best 5 off the top of my head.
