Cancelling last preseason game hurts our rookies

Agree that the rookies getting hurt in the first place was the worst thing. But you'd like Awuzie and Switzer's to have had more game NFL action before trotting them out against the Giants. But cest le vie

Once in a while, football has to take a back seat to life. This was one of those times.

I would expect the rookies who have missed time will be worked slowly into the lineup. Starters during pre season will likely start the season in their starting roles and rookies getting snaps sparingly.

I don't mind. I just don't want to see anybody on the roster get hurt in a preseason football game. The 20-30 snaps or so we'd see from these guys in preseason game 5 don't mean all that much to me. The real test will be v. the Giants, anyway.

Right, these snaps would be to see the bottom 5 players on the roster to make the team, only to be in-active on game days most likely.
The coaches should already have good idea who those are. The only thing is, Switzer in returning punts, and actual game speed for real. I bet he will learn pretty quick. But be prepared to see Beaseley out their a few times too at first.

However, when player that is released, if picked up by another team, and has 1 or 2 decent plays, we will get some rue threads....

A lot of the players that play in the preseason game rarely see any true playing time in the regular season - it's a scrub on scrub match.

I would worry more about the second and third preseason games due to a lot of our starters being out there and I think they need to get ready for true contact - you can already see teams around the league not wrapping up well, so preseason is a nice way to ease teams into this.

I rarely watch the last preseason game unless there is a pet cat I really want to watch.

Would have been nice to see Awuzie, Woods, and Switzer in more game action. Tough to put those guys out there in week 1 with meaningful snaps having such little game action (or none for Switzer). On the plus side, no more risk of injuries to any of the back end of the roster guys who would be playing and entire team will be well rested.

For the Giants game, Awusie is the 4th CB and plays special teams. Switzer gets the Lucky Whitehead snaps in 4 or 5 WR formations but Beasley is the PR. Lewis and Woods are inactive.

Because he didn't return a punt in a preseason game and they may not want his first returns being in a big Monday night game against a rival.

Given the injury to Hitchens and many others around the league I'd really just like to see the league go to 2 pre-season games and add a regular season game plus another bye week so each season lasted 2 weeks longer but injury impact was reduced.

If the next round of NFL negotiations doesn't do this plus remove testing for weed I'll question the sanity of both sides.

He has been returning for a long time and has done it in practice. Dez hasnt returned a punt in years, guess he couldn't do it either
