There is a way out of this mess.

Jerry made that Lance trade for a reason.

Few more weeks. This thing could go either way.
Hes too predictable. Dak will get re-signed. I have close to zero expectations for Lance taking over now.

According to Over the Cap, simply restructuring Dak's last year (because of the Void years built in), Martin, and Diggs gives them $22M+ in cap room. Then, if they extend CeeDee, that would probably drop his $17M+ cap hit down to $10M or less. So, they could EASILY have $30M in Cap Space for FA WITHOUT EXTENDING DAK. And, they would have $95M+ in '25 with 40 players signed.
I think it's more realistic to expect them to extend Dak while also making other moves to open up space as needed. The Lamb extension is probably a given, though, considering his cap hit. But, yeah, if the team wants to open up space to sign free agents, it can easily do that. The Joneses just don't believe in spending on outside FAs, and I see no reason to expect that to change.

So do fans actually believe they reworked these contracts to go $20 million over the cap in 2024, without some type of plan to get back under it?
And doing so without adversely affecting the team.

We know they do some dumb things, but not this dumb. Well, wait, let me think about that some more.

The cowboys can make the numbers work if they want to they don't want to then they won't make the numbers work. Cappell is more Miss if they want to open up some money to sign a free agent pay somebody whatever they want to do they have plenty of availability to do so.

So by your logic Daks 60 million cap hit was planned by the brilliant front office so Dak would hold all the cards in contract demands, or in other words the plan was to extend Dak regardless of his play good or bad, again giving him all the cards in what will be a one way negotiation at 60 to 65 million a year and a no trade clause and in 3 or 4 years the last year hit will be a lot worse, brilliant cap management

We are going to be in cap hell if we keep these three. Parsons is going to want the world. Should we consider trading Prescott, Parsons and Lamb? Can we get a first round pick for Prescott and Lamb and maybe two for Parsons? Take a QB with best pick. Take a LB & OL with the next 2.
cap goes up. contracts get reworked. the hell comes when players move on and you take on the dead money. eventually everyone will get there.

with that said you can't sign everyone, neither do you want to, nor any team does it. you don't have 10 super large contracts. you don't have 10 super stars on the team. you need a few, 5,6 and the rest are good, mid level contracts and then there is the normal contracts.

and in regards to being able to sign FAs. last year we had 20M on the cap after cutting Cooper. this year we had 20+ M on the cap before signing Diggs and still had about 10M after that. we were supposed to be in cap hell as everyone screamed the past two years. didn't happen. and you can't build a team through FA. nobody does. you sign a few key players in FA here and there, but you don't build a team through FA.

with that said, the question is not about contracts, its about paying the right players. are they going to help the team win or do we move on to somebody else. the question is about team building, roster building not contracts.

Dak, Martin, and Parsons.

DRAFT A REAL QB FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 35 FLIPPIN YEARS!
at 24 spot? in a light QB year. most of the good ones go in top 10. very few in 35 years were drafted in the 20s and below. Rodgers, is the only elite who got drafted in the 20s. the rest are good QBs who needed strong teams around them to succeed. our issue is not just QB, its roster building. Jerry the GM is not capable of that.

I really wish people would understand this and wring hands less
cap hell exists when your FO uses misinformation to justify their lack of activity to fans. the effects are the same.

Don't extend Prescot, if he can be traded then trade him. If he refuses, then start either Rush or Lance in his place and let him sit on the bench and make his $60 million dollars while the Cowboy Nation comes down on him week out and week in for his refusal to be traded. Use this year's 1st, 2nd or whatever it's going to take to move up in the draft to get a QB with WINNING BIG GAME college experience, someone who put his team on his shoulders and took them to the next level.

For Dallas, a trade = Post June 1 cut. [saves $34 million in 2024 cap]

it only benefits Dak, as he might keep that base salary + bonus. [$29 million base + $5 million bonus]

But that trade window is really short. He gets a 5 million roster bonus in March.

The money the team saves in cap > Dak getting anymore mega $$$$.

Bottom Line: We dont want any more Dead Cap because of Dak. Dont Extend. Cut. Drive on.
