He makes about 1/3 of what Byron Bell makes. He makes less than Chaz Green. He makes less than Bene Benwikere.

He makes less than almost every backup quarterback in the NFL.

This is an unusual case.

He is ineligible for any contract negotiations until after his 3rd season. It's written into the CBA.

I wouldn't hold my breath on FA. I suspect they will do what they've done the last few years - hit the bargain bin for low cost chumps they think they can mold into something.

I am now firmly in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp when it comes this FO and FA.
Regarding free agency, it is less important how much cap space we have than how much cap space we have in relation to other teams.

Even with cap space, we are always near in bottom of the league when compared to everybody else. On the off chance we are interested in a free agent, we will often be outbid by somebody else. Eric Weddle immediately comes to mind.

It would be great if the team were more aggressive in free agency. But in a lot of cases, when other teams are also interested in somebody, they will be in a position to outbid us.

Don't forget Hitchens will be a FA. I know he's not Lawrence Taylor but considering how paper thin we are at LB it will be interesting to see what the FO decides about him.

I agree.

Money does not seem to be a motivating factor for him. He knows he will get paid in time. I don't see him pushing it.

Especially with the endorsement $$ he's bringing in. Not sure exactly how much it is obviously, but it's got to be more than his salary. Plus, he fell into a great position in Dallas - I don't think he takes that for granted and tries to mess up a good thing.

He'll get paid when his time comes and he knows that. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will force the issue in an anti-team type of way. Who knows, money makes people act in strange ways but I just don't see it.

What's a hold out going to do other than make him lose money in fines? The team literally can't negotiate with him.

Would truly be as asinine as humanly possible and wildly out of character. Laughable.

i'm under the impression that no matter what we do we will never have cap space again to be active in free agency but teams like the giants and eagles who spend big money all the time will forever never be hurt by that spending and continue to do so no until the NFL goes belly up in 3 years. :muttley:

The Giants are actually facing a difficult cap problem in the next couple years giving how many holes they still need to fill. The way the Eagles were able to shed all of Chip Kelly's mistakes and still pick-up a young franchise QB in the process was brilliant.

Youre right. Nonetheless I think he honors his contract. As far as wanting to renegotiate goes he would first need to finish this season off strong, while missing Zeke for 6 games. Are you willing to go out on that limb and bet on Dak in a Zeke-less offense? Just curious. I personally think Dak will be fine ROS.

He's the lowest paid starting quarterback in the NFL.

I think everyone is paying attention to how he looks without Zeke. It likely determines if he is tier 1 or tier 2 QB. Big differences in pay scale.

Likely had planned to use that to lock up Zack. It rolls over and we often push money forward so it isn't like we aren't spending the money.

It will be useful to have that as we are going franchise Lawrence, put a first round tender on Irving, and either extend Martin or use the 5th year option. Plus, look for Hitch to get a nice new deal.
Exactly. Well said. You get a like.

Eagles have cap problems and so do the Giants after that 200 million dollar spending spree. I dont know how Dallas holds on to everyone?

2017 Hitchens, Irving and Lawrence alone is getting over 60 million
2018 Zach Martin 60+ millon
2019 Dak Prescott wont go into his final year of his rookie contract without a new 100 million dollar deal
2020 Zeke up at this time

Dallas getting penalized for drafting so well. Lawrence picked a great year to break out. Teams in this league salivate over pass rushers and he is leading the NFL. But Dallas has four 60+ million dollar contracts to hand out over the next four years and that doesnt include Hitchens and Irving.

Are we projected to have enough to do something like this this summer? I know we'll have to figure out something with Martin (I know he's under contract next year but it's expected something will get done, likely franchise tag Lawrence, and figure out a way to keep Irving.

With the effect of Romo finally coming off the books and the above mentioned transactions taking place, will we have enough space for 1 MAYBE 2 solid FA signings? I understand the FO's style is not to sign free agents but that's a topic for another thread. Is the possibility likely to be there?
Martin will get 12M/ Lawrence 10m/ Irving the same/ Hitchens
I jsut want to keep our guys

Not a chance my man. Not a chance in "H" "E" "Double Hockey Sticks" they get Larence for 10 mil per. Olivier Vernon is getting 17 mill and he signed that 2 years ago. JPP is getting 15.5, Calais Campbell got 15 per this year and he is 31. The Eagles gave Vinny Curry 10 million per 2.5 years ago and he had 5 sacks that year. Lawrence is getting over 15 million per from someone. Sack specialists get PAID! But sacks specialists in their mid 20's who might win DPOY get super DUPER paid.

I agree with you but that makes the point. We are hard pressed just to sign our own. Outside FA would be difficult.

I think teams that have drafted amazing like Dallas should get a discount on the cap ONLY if you are resigning your drafted FA's. Its kind of unfair Dallas is getting penalized for drafting well.
