Carimi Concerns

Referring to the article below about Carimi. My first Mock had Dallas trading down to select Carimi than picking Wiesnewski at #40 but later I have concerns about picking Carimi after watching and reading about him. I've read several things that stated he has trouble with Speed Rushers blowing by him. Can anyone discuss this that is a little more in the know about Carimi and if the Cowboys did draft him exactly where do you feel he would start and be taking who's starting spot in the Offensive Line ?

alittle more info from tfydraft on cowboys info
- Where will the Dallas Cowboys go in round one? Evidently the team is not in love with Prince Amukamara and won’t use the 9th selection on him. This on the heels of sources telling us the team will cut veteran Terence Newman. All signs continue to point to an offensive tackle, specifically one that can play the right side. Sources told us the team will cut Marc Columbo and Leonard Davis. They hope to bring Davis back at a smaller salary. At the same time they hope to resign Doug Free and Kyle Kosier. Dallas then plans to shop the 9th pick and trade down to grab their right tackle. Sources have told us their is already a plan in place with a team that holds a mid-first round pick if either Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton are still on the board when Dallas is called to the clock. Right now sources have told us Gabe Carimi sits atop their wish list as they feel he is the only player they feel can quickly move into the starting line-up. Tyron Smith can’t be far behind as the Cowboys are bringing the USC junior in for a visit.

about Carimi and the Speed Rusher thing ?

Not worried at all.

I've said all along that I think he could probably play left tackle no problem.

Before I knew who the guy was all I heard about was how he lacked athleticism. Then I watched the guy and wondered where all these people got the from..?

People act like he is some giant stiff out there but he moves his feet well.

I think he will be a dependable guy for this team for many years if we pick him.

Not to mention he'll be a day 1 starter + we get an additional pick.

In other words who's spot on Dallas OL will he take if picked ?

Carimi at LT? No.

He could do it no problem imo.

Luckily we don't need him to but his athleticism is good enough to play that position.

If there is an injury I wouldn't lose any sleep knowing we had to play him @ LT.

NYC isin't LT our true needs and if Carimi can't play there than it seems we need to be looking at someone else in the 1st Round ? Do you agree ?

Oh for sure Colombo's.

There is no need to force Doug Free out of that spot in year 1.

Maybe down the road if Carimi becomes superior.

Carimi better than Free? Wow man, I think your view of Carimi is over-inflated. The guy can play RT in the NFL, but he will never be a LT in the NFL therefore never be able to displace Free.

Tyron Smith on the other hand probably can displace Free at LT in a year or two.

I don't see where the concerns of his pass blocking are coming from, I mean he was dominant against Clayborn, Heyward, and Kerrigan... all possible 1st Rounders. You're not going to bullrush him because he's too strong, and his feet are quick enough to defend the edge.

Carimi is like a less sexy version of Jake Long IMO, when I watch him play I see the same type of player that Long was at UM. Bulldozing run blockers, dominant at the POA, prototype size, experienced, pro style offense, etc. I think he's underrated right now and there's no doubt in my mind he's the best Tackle in this class, could be a good LT but will be an excellent RT.

Just curious, why couldn't he play LT in the NFL? I think he'll be an out of this world RT, but if he had too I think he could hold down the LT spot for someone and do a good job. I think his quickness and ability to pass set are becoming very underrated.

See thats where we disagree than because I think there are several teams Carimi could play LT for already.

Pretty much sums it up for how I feel as well.

Because everyone likes to magnify a hole in anyones game this time of year and this "hole" in his game isn't nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

The guy can move and he can get to the 2nd level with his athleticism.

Add his effort to the equation and you got nothing to worry about.

I agree. When I first saw him play, I was expecting to see James Marten out there. But he moves really well.

People tend to box prospects into 'types'--Carimi is T for Wisconsin so his knock inevitably is athleticism. I don't know though, my eyes see a big, strong, mean man who moves really well.

You think Carimi is better than Free? or even *CAN* be better than Free? Carimi will never play LT in the NFL. All the teams looking at Tyron project him at LT. That can't be said about Carimi.

He would get owned by speed rushers. You put him on the right said and the only time you have to give him help is when a team's best DE/OLB switch sides. If he was always playing LT, you would almost always have to swing help to his side.

Taking a guy because you feel you can "more quickly move him into the starting lineup", sounds like a good reason we draft such terrible offensive lineman.

How about getting him because you feel he's talented and has room to grow, not because you think he'd be the easiest to transition?

I'm not even saying Carimi may not be the guy, but I REALLY hope he's not the guy just because we want a starter at RT.

No way. You have convinced yourself that he is an unathletic pud.

He would have no problem with a speed rusher if he locked on to them what so ever.
