Carimi Concerns

No way. You have convinced yourself that he is an unathletic pud.

He would have no problem with a speed rusher if he locked on to them what so ever.

No, I actually like Carimi. (at RT anyhow) I wouldn't mine the Cowboys drafting him if they trade down. Smth is still far and a way the best tackle in the draft. If he came out next year, he would be a top five pick without question. If he is actually up to 315lbs and still blows the doors off at his pro day, I think he could damn well be gone before the Cowboys pick at #9.

btw, the problem with speed rushers is actually being able to lock on to them. Therein lies the problem.

Taking a guy because you feel you can "more quickly move him into the starting lineup", sounds like a good reason we draft such terrible offensive lineman.

How about getting him because you feel he's talented and has room to grow, not because you think he'd be the easiest to transition?

I'm not even saying Carimi may not be the guy, but I REALLY hope he's not the guy just because we want a starter at RT.

When it comes to the Cowboys picking offensive linemen my advice to them would to be not to get cute.

Carimi is a sure thing + we could add additional picks.

I think the fact we know he can start and play at a high level from day 1 is a plus.

I don't know if he can play at a high level, haven't seen him play a snap of NFL football yet but I think he's as safe a pick as there is for RT, sure.

I don't claim to have watched Carimi that much, but why couldn't he be Matt Light? Not a top-of-draft pick and not a superstar, but solid on a very good team for years.

That said, I see no reason Free won't be there for years for us.

Well if you're right about Carimi than I probably wouldn't pick the guy until mid 2nd round.

I just think he is the total package and can play either side.

I would be fine with Carimi at RT.

Smith/Carimi would be a very good upgrade for us.

Because if a speed rusher lines up across from him its an auto sack everytime.

Carimi better than Free? Wow man, I think your view of Carimi is over-inflated. The guy can play RT in the NFL, but he will never be a LT in the NFL therefore never be able to displace Free.

Tyron Smith on the other hand probably can displace Free at LT in a year or two.

Then why didn;t he play LT at USC? They tried him there and he failed. What makes you so certain he can make it in the NFL if he can't in the PAC 10?

You think Carimi is better than Free? or even *CAN* be better than Free? Carimi will never play LT in the NFL. All the teams looking at Tyron project him at LT. That can't be said about Carimi.

Not right now, but why couldn't he be?

Did anyone in their right mind predict that Free would be better than Flozell at LT? Or even a starter?

Just 'cause someone is projected somewhere by a bunch of talking heads doesn't mean real NFL people feel the same way.

When I look at Carimi, I see a guy who shut down potential 1st rounders at LT. Not RT. LT. I don't see that from Smith. No predictions, no projections, no projects. Just going off what I've seen

Where did you hear that they tried him at LT and that he failed?

From what I've seen of smith I'm not sure I want him at all.

Carimi will be playing guard in the NFL in 3 years, Leonard Davis style. The days of being able to hide a slow footed tackle on the right side are coming to an end in the NFL. Too many teams employing the 3-4 with two speed rushing OLBs, too many teams flip flopping their best pass rusher around to exploit the best matchup, too many 4-3 teams now using undersized speed rushing DEs in exaggerated 9 techs like the Colts use Freeney and Mathis (and the way the Eagles will be using Cole and Graham next year under Washburn). There's no such thing as a prototype right or left tackle anymore. You either have a tackle who can block the likes of Brian Orakpo or Elvis Dumervil, or you have a guard.

Ok here's a question for the Carimi fans. How far do you think we would have to trade up with our 2nd round pick to get him?

I ask this because of a scenario in which we trade back with our #1 and select a J.J. Watt or Cam Jordan and then use those picks acquired to move back into the first round to select Carimi.

Funny that mike mayock said during the senior bowl week of practices that Carimi could definitely play and start at LT in the NFL. Said he had left tackle feet and the experience after starting all 4 years at LT on one of the best OL's in college football. I'm sure he's not as smart as you guys are and prolly only saw a couple of videos of him on YouTube though. Just thought it was funny that he would say that. BTW it's on a YouTube video put up by DC Fanatic. North senior bowl practice -Jan.24- part 1, for all you crying link.

The days of being able to get by without top pass protection tackles on both sides are going if not gone.

Ross tucker, who played O Line, says Smith is the best tackle in this draft.

Mike Mayock, Mel Kiper, and all the other guys in the media that never played offensive line or coached offensive line at the NFL level are dillholes. I will stick with people that know what they are talking about.

Besides, he may have said that he was a LT, but as of March 11th he is singing a different tune.

19. Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin
I think the kid is a plug-and-play right tackle. Throw him in there and he's a starter on day one. And he's a starter for the next 10 years. He's got a little attitude and there's something tough about him. He's a good football player.

He changes his story as he hears information come out about players like most fans do. (probably as agents give him kickbacks too like Mel Kiper has already been busted doing)

I would be stoked if we somehow nabbed Carimi and Weisnewski in the draft.

I strongly feel Carimi is a instant RT starter in this league. His lack of athleticisim is overblown, but in relation to guys like T. Smith or Soldier, he comes up a bit short.

I think whether he can handle speed rushers is a question that remains a bit open. Heyward, Clayborn and Kerrigan (to an extent) aren't speed rushers. The first two are basically bullrushers without sophisticated pass rush moves and Carimi handled both with ease.

funny you say those two because I did a Mock 2 months ago that had Dallas Trading down and selecting Carimi while adding a 3rd Rounder than at Pick #40 selecting Weisnewski. Dallas in the 3rd Round with 2 Picks selected Defense (Secondary and DL). I just liked the fact our OL would now consist of:

1) Carimi @ RT
2) Free @ LT
3) Weisnewski @ Center
4) Gurode @ Guard
5) Kosier/Free Agent @ Guard

Lol, I know, I saw what you wrote that earlier in the thread and was just commenting that would be a great draft day haul. I should have just quoted it.
