Was listening to him earlier on Joe and Evan and they were talking about Dallas and Romo, I'm paraphrasing here...

Said these things about Romo:
"has to improve his decision making"
"has big spot mess ups"
"he had a great coach in Parcells, a very good coach in Phillips (I know I should have tuned off right tne and there), but he still makes those decisions, its not coaching"
"Championship QBs make great decisions... he hasnt done that"

Then Joe says "not yet.. but he's young though".
Banks responds by saying: "not in the present, and they are a win now team"

He goes on... "too many instances where he doesnt take care of the ball, very careless... he has too many crazy and erratic plays in him."

Then he talks about how Dallas can get away with that in the regular season, but in the playoffs, when talent level is close, they cant.. "they've got to start working on this QB now".

Based on all this Joe presumes he's not too high on Romo, so he asks if Romo is the 3rd best QB in the division... get this he says "Romo is a top 5 in the league"!!!

WOW... Can somebody explain how he could say all that about him and still call him a top 5 QB?!!!

I honestly dont get it, if he's judges QBs by pure physical talent (which never tells half the story about a QB anyways) Romo isnt exactly your prototypical QB. And if he's talking about the intangibles, he just spent like 5 minutes discussing his short comings!

WEIRD

A lot of what he said is true. Romo does need to protect the ball and learn to take a sack or throw it away the right way. It's also true that he is top 5 in the league. That's why everyone calls him an enigma. Romo needs to make better decisions and he is one of the best NFL QBs today.

I do agree with the big spot mess ups. The good thing is that he doesn't let those get to him and bother him like alot of quarterbacks do. Although he does need to have less and less of those.

Romo on his INT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Romo: "That was on me," he said later of the first-quarter pass he tried to complete in the middle of the end zone to Witten, only to have it intercepted by Packers safety Nick Collins and returned 61 yds. "He was right, and I was thinking something else. They were in a defense we call Cover 4 – that means he was covered by four guys." Romo delivered that line with impeccable comic timing, too – you'll see it soon, whenever he gets that inevitable offer to host Saturday Night Live.) But the Cowboys led 13-6, and Romo wasn't sweating the numbers.

"It's not so much a testament to my maturity as it is a testament to my understanding of the game," Romo said later. "As soon as I started to get a sense of the game, I realized, 'I'm not gonna throw for 500 yards tonight. And that's OK.' So I approached it from that mindset."

yeah i love me some romo but he needs to protect that ball as if his life depends on it. a sack with another down to go is alot better than a turnover. just like forcing in a pass in the red zone, tony throw it away take the field goal!

I think Banks is just pointing out that Romo still needs to improve his decision making & take better care of the ball. However, despite all that, he and most others consider Romo at least a top 10 or even a top 5 QB in the NFL. This is a real tribute to the level of Romo's play so early in his career which explain the scrutiny he's getting so soon.

I'd like to hear that Banks interview myself. 9/10 times bloggers post whatever guy said on a radio show ends ups greatly exageratting what he said.

With that being said-it's still early in the season. I'm not worried. Yes, Romo needs to learn how to protect that ball better, but he'll be fine down the road.

I doubt if we'll another multiple TO anomaly game like we saw in Buffalo last year.

He's only going to get better, IMHO.

Romo: "That was on me,"

"Yes it was" and a very bad one at it! But yet again he pits it behind him.

When this kid gets it, he will be something very special!

So did you expect him to say, "That was on TO", or "That was on Witten", or "That was on Garrett"?

I can live with his mistakes, he has 50 great snaps for every bad one anyhow, its not like he is messing up by the numbers.

The same ability that gets him out of those low probability of success moments and make an incredible play is what gives him the opportunity to make a bonehead play as well. You can't have one without the other.

Tom Brady makes great decisions 99% of the time but you never see him run back 20 yards for the ball on a high snap and end up making a first down.

You are never going to get a creamy middle with Romo and we should just sit back and enjoy it since most of the time he plays like the best QB in the NFL.

well, I coulda swore he played that way later in the game(2nd half). Like when he threw the pass at the back of the end zone on whatever Down & goal. That was the smart throw. If the WR couldnt catch it, nobody was.

I think criticism of Romo at this point is just absurd.

"His decision making has to improve"

Really? What about the 36 touchdowns he threw last year.

The guy is perhaps the best quarterback in the league, and is being told he needs to improve his decision making.

Im not worried about Romo, he makes plays. Every QB throws picks. Big Ben throws picks and fumbles a lot more than Romo and no one questions him. I think people are micro-analyzing this team right now. looking for anything to complain about, including fans.

Or we could have Bledsoe-the ultimately drive killer b/c he takes WAY too many sacks, to the point where Parcells had no choice but to call run plays on 9/10 1st downs.

criticizing Romo for taking chances is like yelling at MB3 for running too hard--it's who they are and what makes them great

Unfortunately, there was a reason why Tuna called draw plays on 3rd and 13 in the red zone ... regardless of who was starting at QB.
